2014 Nationals Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

Also, I have most of the squads from Thursday and Friday (by definition, since that's where those squads came from). Hopefully I can get the final rankings Thursday / Friday so I can organize them.

Spoiler alert, there were 4 instances of Darth Vader TIE Advanced on Thursday, although none on Friday or Saturday.

No mistakes on your end, and not that it matters, but Phillip Horny definitely had 15 pts on Saturday. Seems like something fishy happened...

Just want my list to stand out more, is all, as it is better than I expected it to be.

I looked through the matchups and such and calculated MoV.

Correct pts: 15

Margin of Victory: 553

Correct place: 17 ish

I lost in the first round, so most of my opponents dropped after i had won, I imagine that caused some confusion for the TOs. It was also an interesting and sad position to be in, feels bad knocking people out who do know how to play very well, especially after i lost my final match to a really cheesey mistake with Whisper.

For completeness sake while I'm here, I played against:

Matt Baxter - loss 12 MoV (dang you 1hp Han)

#40 - W 140 MoV

#32 - W 170 MoV

#43 - W 169 MoV (I think his squad was 99 pts)

#21 - loss 62 MoV

Thanks, I let the TO know. Maybe we'll uncover some other errors when we dig a little deeper. It was a crazy day, and some of the software kinks with MoV were still being worked out.

I'll update your results here later. It's already updated in a googledoc that I am using to track just GenCon.

Ok, not 100%, but for the Saturday list:

#14 Dave was running Han with gunner+marksmanship+C3PO, and Chewy with Falcon title (although Han may have had the title instead of Chewy, not sure). He qualified on flight 1.

#36 Lyle was running Howlrunner with Swarm and 6 5 Scimitars. I think he qualified flight 1 as well.

Awesome, thanks. I'll just assume Chewie had the Falcon title otherwise marksmanship wouldn't be very useful. Although lately we have been seeing MF + C-3P0 being inseparable.

Thanks for Lyle's squad. That's 5 Scimitars not 6.

I believe the mystery has been solved. Your game against Adam Livingston was recorded backwards, with him having the win instead of you. The post on the first page should now have the correct values (for you and him).

Unrelated: does anyone know when the Malaysian Nationals are? They are in September, but I don't know what weekend, or have their contact info.

As far as I know, the Malaysian Nationals take place on Sep 27 (saw it somewhere else as well, but only reference I have at the moment is this facebook comment )

The Dutch Nationals just ended. 36 people played.

Whisper + VI + Rebel Captive + ACD with 5 academies defeated 2 academies + 4 obsidians with Omnicron + Vader in the final match. This is from memory. The rest of the lists should be put online in the coming days.

Jep, thats right. The swarm is more alive than ever!

(I was defeated in the final match.)

The winning list was played brilliantly and is incredibly strong.

PS: Howlrunner is overrated :P

Oops, for Dave's squad, Han didn't have C3PO, Chewy had predator instead.

Did someone actually get a video of the U.S. Nationals? I would love to see it.

OK, updated to:

  • #14 - David Coley (15 pts, 626 MoV, flight 1): Han Solo + Gunner + Marksmanship; Chewbacca + Predator + Millennium Falcon

We are still waiting on Team Covenant to publish it.

Cool.. it would be awesome if they could get a livestream going for worlds.

If I am not mistaken, they had a Twitch.tv livestream last year.

A complete overview of all lists used in the Dutch Nationals!

Thanks, I'll go pull the data in in a day or two, after it has settled out. So it looks like 6 rounds of Swiss with no elimination rounds?

Yes, they did rounds of swiss until one was left who won all the games. So it could have been 5, then everyone got ranked. There was no finals table or cut.

Great! I'll see about updating the list here tonight.

I finally compiled all the Netherlands results! We have all of them except for #26. copied from the front page:

Netherlands (September 7)

Is it just me or are phantoms just popular at the moment, they are winning but there are just a lot of them and look reasonably even spread.

Having lots of phantoms results in higher chance of winning a tournament with one right.

So, in the Regionals thread I broke out the stats so you could see the conditional effectiveness of everything, to answer those types of questions.

But I haven't compiled the statistics yet. It is taking too long to manually fill in the Excel fields for each squad and its upgrades. I'm going to put all the results in a text file and write a script to parse it and compile statistics instead. However I'm busy writing my dissertation, so there is no ETA. Hopefully before Worlds, but no promises.

This isn't stopping anyone else from doing the same. :D

FYI, I just updated U.S. Nationals (GenCon) for Thursday's Flight with the full lists and rankings.

What page is that on?
