i say to **** with all this Phantom needs nerfing crap, with the YT-2400 outrider hlc combo coming out soon, and all the double Falcons i've had to fight or synergy combo's the rebels get i say leave the Imps their nice squishy ship.

I saw that. Makes for only named yt gunner and named phantom VI + ACD since wave 4 has been legal. Bear in mind I'd still call that a small sample size.

I believe that we have plenty of tools right now to handle the 'Phantom Menace' (snorts like a dork!), it is just going to take the meta a little bit of time to adjust.
Higher PS ships to shoot at Phantoms when they are decloaked, your little buddy Soontir Fel is great for this, Boba Fett, Han Solo... etc

Swarms, not flown in a formation and used to pinch off exit routes for a Phantom... I think Z's do this a bit better then TIEs because they are slower but I think they both can do it.
Formation Flying with a turret/Falcon
Upgrades like Tactician, Darth Vader crew card, Flechette Torpedoes, Ion Pulse Missiles + Blount...
I find it really hard to believe that this one ship, or this one upgrade card, has really caused all of this fuss when they is a lot out there to help crush that ship.
The Phantom presents a high learning curve to it. To shoot at all you are forced to take a fairly substantial maneuver prior to actually moving. Getting use to that takes some time, especially on a ship that will likely die if played over aggressively. People generally realize this, though.
What people don't realize is non-turret related answers to the Phantom present an even steeper learning curve. You have to learn how it moves so you can learn to move against it. Learning to fly against a Phantom takes more then learning how to fly one, and often requires finding someone who can fly one to practice with. People seem to overlook that aspects.
Are turrets the only or best answer to the Phantom? Perhaps but unlikely. Are they the easiest to put into practice? Of course. So that's what we are seeing.
I've actually had good success blocking the Phantom with regular TIEs. The problem is actually doing damage to it after that point. If they're using Whisper, you're still most likely firing against 4 defense dice and focus.
I'm starting to think that a screen of TIEs followed by an HLC a good distance behind is the best way to do it without turrets.

Here's a good tutorial for getting started with Vassal. There's a little bit of a learning curve but once your on there's a lot of players that will help you get started.

Has anyone used any interesting non turret counters to the phanom?
I'm just waiting for someone with Roark to beat the stuffing out of Whisper or Echo at a Regionals. Something as simple as:
Roark + Ion Cannon Turret + Intelligence Agent
3x Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors
Unless you can dodge all THREE B-wing arcs, your Phantom will get shot at by 3 dice with focus, and you have only 2 agility. It'll still take a couple rounds of fire to take it down, but it's far less scary.
Edit: technically that list has a turret on Roark, but the real point is shooting at PS12. The Ion is nice, but 3 offense dice against 4 defense dice isn't very good odds.
3A + F vs 4D + F: 27% chance to hit
3A + F vs 4D: 60% chance to hit
This is why Gunner is so powerful on a YT-1300, by the way. Once the focus tokens are gone, 4 agility is far less menacing. Gunner helps force token removal or taking one damage.
I was thinking Roark + Tarn + B + Z might be enough. Pack a missile on that Z and if they get lucky to have the phantom in Arc Roark him. Tarn mini tanks and B's be B's.

The Phantom is wierd. The line between overpowered and underpowered is extremely small. Very hard to balance - i suspected before details were released it would be one or the other.
I dont know what my opinions are yet, but the prospect of being forced into a phantom or phantom counter isnt appealing.
