XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread
My god that model XG-1 was so beautiful. So very beautiful.
I wonder if I can get a 1/270 scale Rebel Transport and/or CR90. They'd be big
I was using this baby for a while until the official (& kinda cool) FFG versions came out.

Tsiegtiez - yeah, that Dreadnaught is amazing!
Is Epic play epic enough to handle that thing? It's a beast.
I want to use it so bad. Not quite "lash together six and throw them into wild space" bad, but I the wheels are turning for an "Assault the Dreadnaught" mission or maybe even a "Katana Fleet" campaign. With Gunboats aplenty, of course.
Still no Dreadnaught in Armada? Does the Assault Frigate count?

No the Assault Frigate that FFG made for Armada is the UGLY MKII, it borders on TIE Punisher UGLY and irrelevance. The MkI Assault Frigate from the Rpgs and a bunch of other sources looks more like the Dreadnaught and is gorgeous by comparison.
That Dreadnught model is wonderful looking, wow!
Rok 98 - And as for a scale CR90 Corvette,it would be 21 inches long, the FFG one is about 13.25 inches.

I just know you did not try to curmudgeonly disparage The Awesome Glory of The Heroic Alliance Killer Space Whale... I know you did not just try to do dats!!!

THE CHAMP IS HERE... THE CHAMP IS HERE... THE CHAMP IS HERE!!!

Still ugly....and now a picture of it defaces the sanctity of the Gunboat thread.
At least you posted a picture of a 3d printed MkI Assault frigate to go with it.

Yeah so peeps could see how much more badass The MK1 is in comparison.
Yeah, that Mk II Assault Frigate looks like somebody took an Escort Frigate and mashed it up with a Mon Calamari Cruiser. Then attached random wings. I don't see any Dreadnaught in it at all.
Just in case anyone wanted to try out the paper Gunboat from a couple of pages back, here's a printable PDF:

Looks pretty sweet:

That topic's 7 years old, and there's a MillenniumFalsehood on it... us X-Wingers are a hardcore bunch!

But.. .. how many play mats (and tables) would we need to fit 200 Dreadnaughts? ![]()
..atleast they could all move linked to the 1 dial of the Katana i guess..
You could make the Dreadnaughts all flat- like obstaclesprinted on cardstock paper or cardboard, so that fighters can fly over them. A Dreadnaught should be about 53-54 inches long if kept in the same scale as the 13.25 inch long Corellian Corvette.
You could easily have a half a dozen on a board that is about 4X10 feet, and have plenty of space to play a big epic fight over the top of them.
Of course with a dozen Gunboats helping the empire try to defend//capture them.
Edited by knaveleadYou know, I don't think I saw one Dreadnaught in any of the prequels of the CW show. What a shame. It's almost like one of the most iconic EU ships just got completely ignored for toally new designs. That never happens.

Dat might be because it is a Frigate... which is a whole other class... of BADASS!

I hoped to see Dreadnaughts in the prequels too.
But I think the design team based the Providence Class on the Dreadnaught design.
In the EU it was later added, the Providence is part of the Dreadnaught design line.
Edit: Aparently I'm not allowed to post the Image directly o.O
Edited by RougeLeaderThis one?

Images links need to end with a .jpg or .gif file extension when you paste them into the toolbar. Just cut all the junk after the file extension out of the url and your good.
BUT THIS ISN'T A DREADNAUGHT THREAD.
THIS IS A GUNBOAT THREAD!

GUNBOAT!
Edited by FTS GeckoI was thinking about how one might convince FFG to bring in the XG-1 Assault Gunboat, from a purely sales perspective (I've spent most of my career in sales).
If we, the community, were to approach FFG (someone would need to have an inside contact name or someone fairly high up - in terms of rank) with a representative with hundreds and hundreds (maybe thousands?) of pre-paid, non-refundable deposits (which I suppose, for our safety, could be credited for other future product if need be if the project failed) all towards the creation of the Gunboat.
I do know that there aren't many Sales Managers who would flatly refuse a sales order with thousands of deposits. FFG might be a nice company who strives to make good products, which I believe they do - but make no mistake, they are in business to earn a nice profit (profit isn't a dirty word, by the way).
Anyways, just an idea from my background in sales to motivate this into really happening, that's all.
[Edit - spelling errors]
Edited by SlaveofChristThat could be fine, but I only see it working if the initiative came from FFG itself.
Something similar to the polls they are using for the mandatory ships for each faction.
They could arrange a list of tentative new ships and let people vote which ones they'd prefer to come first to X-Wing.
"Would you order this expansion pack?"
A little bit like Steam Greenlight works.

It's a nice idea, but the main problem is that FFG is producing their X-Wing products under license, and requires approval from the Almighty Mouse.
What they want to do and what they are able to do may well be two different things.

Not to derail the GUNBOAT thread, but I ordered a Mk1 from here for Armada if anyone else is interested.
Wouldn't it be funny if the Gunboat turned up instead of a Tie Bomber with a groovy new paint job in Episode VIII or IX?
By then though this thread would be about 300 pages long.
Edited by RoK 98There's still the possibility it could turn up in the next season of Rebels. Or Rogue One. Either fits the timeline for it.
Us it just me, or have the last twenty pages of the topic flown past..?
Or it could show up in Rogue One, like that faked screenshot from the trailer showed. IIRC that would about fit timeline wise.

Not just you
Our best bet would be to pettition Paul Heaaver to make his 4th card a gunboat generic.
