I think one good argument against the XG-1 is the massive figurative circle jerk we'd have in this thread in celebration.
The ridiculous levels of smug that would follow, leaving trolls with nothing but sour grapes.

I know that in all seriousness I'd get at least 4 Gunboats, because of my predilection for flying ships in flight groups in "mission" format.
Since I'm an forge the narrative gamer, I really like that mission and campaign format, so to me the Gunboat is a tool, a very powerful tool used to cover narrative things that TIE's don't.
I also like it for reasons I've covered about 6 billion times now.
There would be some smugness there, but you know I actually kind of disagree. If we got the Gunboat. What would there be for us to campaign for?

Missile boat?
Oh no. No. No no no. No.

TIE Avenger of course.
GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat maybe, or the R-41 Starchaser! Much less interesting than the GUNBOAT of course but could see them adding to the game.
I'm sorta waffling on the Avenger, it's basically the TIE/x1 with 3ATK and a TIE/in or TIE/fo dial? I mean, that's really awesome, but I don't know what else it's adding to the Imperial hangars. I love the ship, I love the design, and I loved flying it back in the day, but I don't know how I'd feel about buying three or four of them. I don't know I'd use them unless it had some really unique feature or some bonkers fantastic pilots.
TIE aggressor.
Except that it's basically the TIE s/f and there's no chance something from legends gets done before that IMO.
I'd like to see the TIE Aggressor, but mainly I like to see it for the people that really want it.
^ figurative? Pretty sure it will be literal, with a massive bukaki on...some peoples.
I can see why some folks don't like the gunboat, but I'm all for inclusion of any new ships, even if they are ugly as crap SWG scum fighters that were bought into the game before the R-41or Cloakshape or Preybird...but I digress. As popular and iconic the GUNBOAT, and Avenger and even the Stormtrooper Transort were in a long lived and greatly loved series of space sims it's very...frustrating to certain fans when those ships get passed over for newer or more obscure designs. I'm sure many younger fans feel that including older EU ships is folly as well. But all that bein said---
GUNBOAT FOREVER
EVEN? The Stormtrooper Transport is glorious!!! (I modded at least 2 of the games so I could fly it).
Not gonna lie though, the TIE Punisher actually gave me a morale failure.

I have solved my problem with the punisher by recently buying a missile boat from Mel's and plan on using it as "Redline". While not perfect I can headcannon it as the MB was designed to kill with missiles, and has boost to pretend to SLAM. "Redline" can do this close enough for me.

The punisher was a massive troll. I honestly think the TIE Uglies have more scope in game (aesthetics and mechanics) than that abomination.
I mean at least until we get the gunboat.
Nah, then the thread switches to tactics and build discussion! ![]()

(at least) 4 here as well. Because Rho Squadron. And because they'd make a perfect Gozanti escort in Epic.
TIE Avenger of course.
Yep. 2 x Avenger / 2 x Gunboat = the TIE Fighter Traditionalist Build.
Someone earlier asked what we'd do after the party if this was ever released.
I'd probably campaign for Imperial Cr-90s or a petition to rid the Punisher and replace it with the Scimitar bomber. Because after passing through the needle once, it can surely be done again...
The punisher has grown on me, but then Bombers have always been my favorite TIEs, and it's just a bombier Bomber. The MIS should have been the opposite number to the K-wing though. Maybe one day we will get the emperor god king destroyer of fleets. But GUNBOAT first!

I love the TRN Transport but in this game it would just be a Lambda with no wings and torpedoes added. Unless FFG gets real ballsy and adds boarding parties.

Mine is a stand in model for a shuttle, not gonna lie.

Kinda like how the T70 is a T65 with one more shield, a tech slot, and a better dial?
Avenger could end up equally good. And access to Tallon rolls is something Empire is still lacking.

Okay, that's fair.
The flip side is that the T-65 has some problems at the moment and is awaiting some sort of TIE/x1-level boost. Most TIE/ad pilots with either Accuracy Corrector or the Advanced Targeting Computer are pretty solid.
If they make an Avenger with 3ATK, Sensor slot, and TRolls, I'll be pretty stoked. That's a completely different beast than the /ad or /in.

The TRN is a much better stand in for what the Lambda does in X-wing minis, where it assaults targets and participates in battles. In TIE fighter if you saw a lambda it was either a spy or a whole squad of rebels or pirates, or a lone Imperial watching at the edge of battle, which is basically Palpshuttle now.

I think I can see why you say that adding new things can do no harm, but it's all a matter of perspective. I don't want the game to drift away from truly recognizable Star Wars ships and get filled with the more obscure ones.
Now, I actually think the Gunboat is a nice-looking design and all (certainly better than the K-Wing or TIE Punisher), but for me it just doesn't look like something the Empire would do. Maybe if it was bigger I could see it as some kind of combat-oriented Lambda, but I find it hard to believe in a non-TIE imperial starfighter. I realize it could be just me, anyway, but that's how I feel about it.
The Sentinel, however, shows up in the movies and is a must IMO.
To me the GUNBOAT always looked Imperial, it reminded me of an upgraded ISP Shuttle Pod 'mini-rig' from back in the day. Later when I saw the V-19 Torrent I say the Gunboat as a retroactive descendent, at least in part. Remember, all Clone Wars ships were the first Imperial starfighters.

A fair comment, and a similar one that some people have made about prequel ships (and that many made about the possibility of Scum & Villany as a faction before they were released).
Some of us have been flying the Imperial Gunboat (or shooting 'em down) for over 20 years now, though, and for those of us who grew up with the 90's PC games that this Miniatures Game takes it's name from, the Assault Gunboat is absolutely a recognisable Imperial design. We know it's history, it's role, and the reasons why it became an established asset in the Imperial fleet.
There's more lore, legacy and tradition behind the Gunboat than there is behind some of the other ships FFG have released thus far.
Once more, for emphasis:

104 pages.
The gunboat will happen.
Please? Lol

Get in. The Empire needs your help.
