As much as I would love the Gunboat and Missile Boat, I don't think they are going to happen. FFG has released no non-TIES for the small based Imperial ships, and has already passed up the perfect opportunity to release the Missile Boat. Sorry guys, but these aren't going to happen. We're only going to get more TIE *noun*.
XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread
I rejoice whenever I see this thread up on the front.
On the other hand I saw TFA again two days ago and tried to spot that wrecked assault gunboat inside the star destroyer at the beginning...
Not quite sure about it folks.
Wish I could see what ur talking about concerning the possible wrecked gunboat

I think you will be wrong.
How can they introduce SLAM, which was made for the missile boat specifically in the games... And not do it in this game??
That'd be flat out wrong
Sweet, that was a good write-up! Enjoyed reading it.
Edit: Just realized this was a 60 page thread and I read just the OP from 3 years ago...

I don't know, ask them, as they already did it. The Empire has a small based ordnance carrier equipped with SLAM, instead we got the punisher. If they wouldn't release the Missile Boat then, why would they release it later? They've already squandered the perfect opportunity.

They didn't "squander the perfect opportunity". FFG very rarely duplicate abilities within the same set of releases.
Secondary weapon turret, for instance - it was released Wave 1 with the Y-Wing, then Wave 3 with the HWK. Then it took a big break until Scum arrived. Then there's Cloak. It was released with the TIE Phantom in Wave 4, it's gone through one big change already, and we'll be seeing the first other source for the ability in Wave 8.
The K-Wing got SLAM - that doesn't mean that another release won't get it further down the line, it just means FFG will monitor it and evaluate it's effect on the game before introducing it elsewhere.
Also, saying that FFG has never released an Imperial small based ship that isn't a TIE is pointless. People also claimed there'd never be a third faction in the game right up until Scum & Villany was announced.
Edited by FTS GeckoLooking forward to GUNBOAT being a cheaper /D with crap dial.
And missile boat actually existing in a form somewhat similar to its TIE Fighter glory. Wave 10 or bust? Hopefully they won't need immediate fixes because Imperial Aces three is gonna be a long time coming.

Well I hope you're right, but I have a feeling that Disney isn't going to approve of non TIE craft, even if FFG wants to make one.

That only matters if FFG has to make it up, like thy did with the Raider. Adding a vessel on the standard SD inventory is fine, even if it snt a tie- FFG operates in Legends, so it's not going to mess up their canon.
And the reason for the punisher vs missileboat is simple: Twin Ion Engine Mk 2
Edited by RakaydosI think they mentioned in a interview, I think with Team Covenant, that they know the ship is highly requested. I can only think that they don't want to release it solely on the fact it isn't a TIE, the same way they may decide for the Empire in Armada to only use different variations of Star Destroyers. The assault gunboat is probably my most desired ship for this game at this moment, only time will tell if we see it.

Considering how much material from the X-Wing series has been used in the game so far (no surprises there, it's almost nailed on that the miniatures game was at least partially inspired by the 90's PC game series) I'd be amazed if FFG hasn't at least theorycrafted rules for the XG-1, if not even put together a prototype model.
So I'm sure that you're at least partially right and it's just waiting on approval from Disney. Whether that's a blanket "no" on non-TIE miniatures for the Imperials or just a "get this stuff out first" in relation to the ships from Rebels and The Force Awakens is another matter.
I'm sure both FFG and Disney will have wanted to strike while the iron's hot with both the Rebels series and now the new film, so other Rebel/Imperial EU ships may have been put on the back burner while those releases were put out first.
Which is one of the reasons I was quite happy we didn't see too many new ships in TFA! ![]()
The main problem with these 2 ships is the discreprency between the size and payloads of these ships. These things are supposed to carry 40 concussion missiles each.... On a small ship....
The Gunboat only carried 16 missiles.
But yes, the amount of ordinance that the Missile Boat carried was ridiculous.
I only want to see wedge shaped SD like ships in Armada, specifically more CW designs (Victory SD isn't enough). Imperial capital ships should always be the most effecient all guns firing forward type.
And yes at this point it's more likely we will see the Avenger than GUNBOAT or Missile boat, even r em the distance of Advanced and TAP.
But still, GUNBOAT! You know you wanna! Stop losing money! It's not like we're asking for A-9s or I-7s.
Wave 9: (in my dreams)
GUNBOAT
T-wing (Rebs)
R-41 Starchaser (scum)
Stormtrooper transport
Wave 10: (more dreaming)
Missile Boat
TIE Avenger
Cloakshape (scum) (or Skipray)
V-wing (scum)
Sorry rebels, no wave 10 for you.

Missile boat ordnance emulation: title that says you don't discard secondary weapons.
And GUNBOAT 'only 16 missiles', only in a game with a small based fighter that carried 80(!!!!) missiles is 16 considered a low number. (I know that wasn't the point, it just sounded silly so I ran with it)
And why do people get these two ships confused all the time? They were nothing alike!

Well, it's the same number a TIE Bomber carries. So it's not anything special is what I'm saying.

Someone posted a screenshot two pages back, if I'm correct.
I didn't recognize it as an Assault Gunboat in the screenshot and didn't see it at the movie either.
And I have rather good sight. *sigh*
Ugh no Assault Gunboat and the Missile Boat. Please stop. I wish the Mods would delete this thread.
uhm.... No?
What's wrong with the GUN? And the MIS ...?
I see the gunboat more as the Empire b-wing than a cheaper Defender with a worse dial. Something slow, tanky (by Imperial standards), with a cannon and multiple ordnance. Maybe 2 2 4 2 for stats.

Yes, that's somehow what has become some sort of common point of agreement between all the people that commented in the past 59 pages.
Those stats, an action bar with focus and target lock and various options featured in the upgrade bar such as system upgrade, two missile slots, maybe one torpedo (not sure about it tho) sitting at around 20 points for the generics, if I remember well.
Maybe you can find more in the first page.
FFG knows.
They know.
Oh yeah, they know.

I'm aware. I've been following this thread since 2014.
I've been holding out hope that FFG would give us the Assault Gunboat and the Missile Boat, but I just couldn't wait any longer! (I still hope we get them!)
Representing Cygnus SpaceWorks. I love it!
Such sweetness.
Went to a tournament today at a store where some 3D printers were used to show some features and examples.
All I could think about was "I'm not going to spend 500€ to get one to print my own Gunboat.... Not today."
But.
I.
Will.

*** EDIT
I also won the tournament and the final, crippling blow was dealt by the Almighty White Bovine with Palpatine.
Ah, Cygnus Spaceworks. <3

I'm seeing 40 in wiki, but it can and has been wrong. Do you have a better ref source? 16 is still a huge amount however.
If FFG were going to include the AG, they would need to include the most deadly aspect about it: The spinning star of death that defied all Newtonian physics by reversing direction at you and killing your starfighter if you killed it while close on its tail.
