I'd just like to say, that having watched the trailer again on my TV...
...that that actually looks quite promising. An easter egg, maybe?
Good spot PaulTiberius!
Thanks! Now can someone show me the Y-wing that's supposedly in Trailer #3?

I was putting together some custom pliot cards... Wanted to try and approximate the effects of the jammer and tractor beams from the Tie Fighter game. Here's what I came up with. Not sure the card numeric values are properly balanced, but what do folks think about the abilities listed as something giving the feel of flying the gunboat in TIE FIGHTER?

We all live in a yellow VT49, a yellow VT49....

Liking the ideas!
I'm looking forward to finding out what the Tractor Beam upgrade in the Mist Hunter expansion does. It's got the potential to change the role of quite a large number of ships...
Here's what I'm going to start playtesting for fun. Going to do several bouts with the top 3 gunboats here vs. Horton Salm and Han in the Millenium Falcon. If the imps pwn the rebels regularly, I'll know it has to be scaled back. I deviated a bit on this build by putting more shield than hull. If they prove to be too resiliant will swap it back to let crits do their work. I remember going pretty fast once shields were down in Tie Fighter so it feels like it might be right as a start. I tried to make the maneuver dial a hybrid between xwing and Y-wing based on game experience of routlinely pwning Y-wings, but sometimes struggling against good X-wing and Z95s. I think one could dither about the specifics of the manuever dial for a long time without coming to resolution so for now I'm going to keep that fixed. Then comes the question of point allocations. If switching hull with shields doesn't make for a good enough balance, will considering upping the pilot costs a bit, but it ought to stay comparable to Tie Advanced (I tended to swap between that and gunboat in TIE fighter depending on mission till defenders came into play) but less than a defender.
Will give a battle report after trying them for a while.

Freddie prince jr (plays Kanin in the new rebels show and is a huge Star Wars fan)will be on Jedi council tommorow if none of u know what it is it's an awesome you tube live show by collider network with huge Star Wars fans and if u tweet at #jedicouncil u can try and get questions in for Freddie for them to ask I just sent in my question!!! What is his favorite space ship cannon or non cannon! And can u ask Dave to make the the xg-1 cannon!!! Sent a sweet render with it also we should all bomb him with requests to make the assault gunboat cannon hahaha he is involved with people who can make it happen after all.... Mabey they have an inquisitor use it as there personal ship????
Edited by Djturbo12345What if we actually all pulled together and our posting on that made the ship cannon that would be epic
I really doubt they'd respond to suggestions/questions like that to be honest.
That said, Rebels is probably the place where we probably have the best chance of seeing a Gunboat in action at the moment.
Interdictor gives me hope that we will see Gunboats shooting the Ghost with ion cannons. At least in a cartoon.

That's my thought process. OK, so the Interdictor made it's first official appearance in Heir to the Empire, but it made it's first physical appearance in the X-Wing PC games - alongside the Gunboat. The look of the ship in the trailer is taken directly from the games.
At the very least, it all but guarantees the Interdictor for Armada. Woooooo!
Too bad the Acclaimator and Venator won't be in Armada...despite being dagger shaped and used by the empire.
I would love to see a non-Interdictor version of the 'standard' cruiser that the Interdictor was based on...maybe an armada 'aces pack'.
Soon...

ETA: Just finished painting the gunboats tonight. I'm not a pro as you can tell, but should be good enough for family fun.
Edited by xagcxThat's a great looking paintjob!
Yinz jagoff! I was all excited, thought FFG had confirmed the boat and everything.
...
...
Vader was cool though.
Just saw this. I hate you now for so many reasons ![]()
I bet the alpha class starwing could kick the phantoms butt.
I bet the alpha class starwing could kick the phantoms butt.
It sure would, in 'TIE Fighter 2: TIE Fighterer'
I bet the alpha class starwing could kick the phantoms butt.
The only guy who honestly was able to use it to good effect was Steele.
Most others were not so hot.
Perhaps the GUNBOAT and MISSILE BOAT can be used to implement further munitions fixes. Maybe a cannon upgrade for the xg-1 that allows missiles to be fired without the need of TLs. Or a system upgrade with the MISSILE BOAT that gives a TL and Focus whenever a torpedo or missile are fired. Or a title that allows firing missiles and torps out of arc when spending a TL, and only in arc when not spending it. I see both of these ships coming with lots and lots of cards.
Should the GUNBOAT now come with two cannon slots with the tractor beam on its way?
At this time i'd give it.
Firepower 2
Agi 1 or 2.
Hull 3 or 4
Shield 3-5.
2 missile slots. or 1 torp 1 missile slot. (to allow extra munitions)
I'd still be inclined to have 1 sys 1 cannon rather than 2 cannon. 2 cannon doesn't feel right to me.
Dial reminiscent of a Y or Bwing, maybe sans Kturn.
Base points... we should probably aim for between 23 and 26 for the PS2.
As ever, I'll reiterate my certainty that FFG will one day release the XG-1.
Edited by DariusAPBWell - now that the Force Awakens set has been released - there's always the possibility of it being given a Tech upgrade slot instead of either Systems or Cannon.
More design space. More!

Primary Weapon 2
Agility 2
Hull 4
Shields 3
It was a sturdy ship that could withstand some damage.
Action bar Focus and Target lock
Upgrade bar featuring System Upgrade (Why yes on the B-Wing and not on the XG-1?) Two missile slots and one Torpedo slot
No bomb slot since it was no bomber
And cannon slot since it has integrated Ion Cannons.
I'm positive that it would sit well in the 22/24 points range for PS1/2 pilot, not exceeding 30 for any high ps character.
Well - now that the Force Awakens set has been released - there's always the possibility of it being given a Tech upgrade slot instead of either Systems or Cannon.

Tech upgrade...
As long as it gets titled onto the Defender & E-wing, and as long as the possible Avenger gets it. Sure.

Not so sure about Tech on the Gunboat.
Remember that even featuring hyperdrive and shields it was a rather old ship.
Of course if it gets a tech slot I could only be happy about it. ![]()
