I really don't understand why the gunboat hasn't been made yet. Honestly, I expected it to be one of the first EU ships to be made after the Defender or Phantom.

The only reason I can think of is that they want to keep the Imperial small ships all Tie based ships, my guess is that Seiner Fleet is paying tons to remain the only contractor.

The reason they havnt added the gunboat yet is because they havnt had a good chance to, outside the bomber wave 7. The Punisher is silly and ridiculus, but it has 1 big thing going for it- they can throw a Tie Defender buff in the box with it.

It also fit the theme of dedicated bomber, which the gunboat isn't.

But yes, good logic there.

When we heard that Wave 7 would 'make bombers happy', we misunderstood though the cunning of their spoiler-free hints: Wave 7 turned out not so much to be about 'munitions', but bombs themselves. The K-wing and Punisher make much better candidates for such attention than the Missile Boat ever would.

With that said: Now that we have the Tie Punisher, I suspect we're more likely to see a Missile Boat statline along the lines of 2/2/3/4: 7HP behind 2 AGI is pretty darn durable, and 2 AGI puts it in less direct competition with the Punisher, closer to being a 'tougher TIE bomber'. Then let it carry cannons to differentiate it from the TIE Bombers, and you have a ship that's a B-wing-that-isn't, that depends on upgrades to pack enough punch. 6HP could do it too... but the X-wing 2.0 does that one already. Then again, that might be even better evidence in favour of the lesser shielding.

You'll run into the 'Scyk problem' that naked ships are fairly pointless, and the only upgrade anyone will actually bother with is cannons... but maybe that works out in the long run anyway; presumably they'll have solid enough munitions eventually.

I think there's a half-buried wreckage of something Gunboat-y in the background of the newest TFA trailer. Look in upper right of frame on that wide shot of the ruined Imperial hangar. And no, I'm not talking about the wrecked Lambda in the foreground.

This is quick and dirty ... looks like something with 5 wing fins, assuming symmetry and the proper understanding of how this object is leaning in the sand.
