I wouldn't actually be all that surprised if they were.

Rogue One is going to be set in the period where the Empire introduced them as the answer to Rebel attacks. Pre-Episode IV, right around the time Keyan Farlander was doing his thing.

Missile Boat would be nice too :)

I'd so much love a boarding operation style wave (even if the mechanic wasn't introduced)

XG1/DX9 for imps

Muurian/Kimo for scum

R-41/Rebel shuttle or a nova or something for rebs.

We have SLAM, we have ion cannons, we have an example how it (not) works to let an attack 2 ship equip cannons, we get the Tractor Beam ...

Seems like all needed is there...

And since the Tractor Beam is a cannon, I hope that the Gunboat gets 2 cannon slots:

Wait, why is the Gunboat getting SLAM?

Also the Mist Hunter title is giving me hope that FFG will consider some sort of ion cannon pack-in upgrade like a title or mod. While I'm dreaming, I may as well hope it comes with a System slot, although if it gets that and Extra Munitions availability it'll be cutting into Punisher design space a bit too starkly. I think a single Missile slot a la either TIE Advanced would suffice.

Assault Gunboat didn´t have slam in Tie Fighter.

I would put Focus, TL, Barrerl roll or boost

The gunboat gimmick should be the integrated ion cannons, and the missile boat is the unlimited missiles (and slam, because missile boat)

Dial similar to Y-wing except red 1-turns and white 3-turns. 1, 2 forward greens, maybe 2 banks green as well. I think this is my 500th attempt at stating it out.

Why isn't this a thing yet?! 8 waves and no gunboat. No more than a general snub at all non-TIEs thanks to the Punisher taking the Missile Boat's place. I guess I can blame WEG for not putting the Gunboat into their sourcebooks and the Essential Guides only adopting the Defender from the many, many ship designs from the X-wing games.

And no I don't like the 'linked fire' idea...just too gimmicky, and no real disadvantage like taking away the primary for a cannon turret or taking a turret and turning into a cannon for a second attack. I would prefer a gunboat-only cannon with 4 dice that prevents primary attacks, causes two damage and one ion and costs 4 or 5 points.

It's thematic. Obviously every ship would love to have an extra torp slot for EM, but that might not be the 'best' design decision. But I suppose one each missile and torp slot would suffice and not take anything away from the Bomber.

"ATTACK: Attack 1 ship. If this attack hits, the defender receives 1 ion token. For each uncancelled <critical> result, you may assign the defender 1 ion token instead of a damage card."

This deals a bit of damage, and gives you the option to ionize Large ships if necessary.

One thing I've noticed about the fluff-improved versions (Adv. Homing Missiles, Adv. Protons, etc) is that FFG doesn't just make a directly better copy of the effect, they generally make a different better effect.

Heavy Ion Cannon is the Turbolaser version of the Ion Cannon. It wouldn't be usable on a small ship. And even a large ship would be pushing it.

I actually find it rather annoying that they do that, but that is a completely accurate observation.

Pg 54 of Edge of the Empire sourcebook, Fly Casual: Alpha-Class XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat, complete with picture. FFG know what the gunboat is. I live in hope that we shall see it in Wave 9.

I enjoyed the TIE fighter computer game as well, but if it aint in the new movie I doubt we will see it in the game.

Im TIRED of TIE Fighters. And TIE Punisher pissed me off hard.

TIE Fighter Swarm? Ok, cool. Now TIE/Fo, the same but upgraded. I can live with that but is booooring. Then the Spec Ops, is nice, but more of the same ship with little changes. Punisher is Big Bomber and fill the same role. TIE Av. Prototype is super cool but adds nothing new again.....

Meantime, rebels and scum are enjoying their new toys. A new and original turreted ship with new type of action; new big and cool ship with deployable shuttle; Illicit upgrades that do a lot of fancy things, brobots, etc, and most of all competitive viable.

Seems like Empire fun is dead. There is Palpatine, there is Baron Soontir, there is Vader, and there is Whisper. There are Swarms. Decimator is almost dead. Aaaaand nothing more. Half of the ships of the catalog are underperforming, and/or cover the same roles.

We need something new!! Something cool and Original. We need Gunboat and Blastboat at a minimum. I hope for a lot of crazy Imperial ships in the new films. I'm so bored of TIEs...

Yes, those lists with all the Rebel ships...

B-Wings, Z-95s, Millenium Falcon, Outrider.... what else, again?

X-Wings still are competitively not viable, Corran Horn is the ONLY E-Wing pilot that will ever be used, A-Wing nameds are just... not good, unless it's Jake, T-70s are overcosted a bit and i suspect Poe will be the only one seen on the tables, HWKs are a joke, and Y-Wings only just now saw an entrance again with TLTs. K-Wings would be better if their entire schtick didn't revolve around ordinance.

Imperial meta is much less deadlocked than Rebel meta is. I'm definitely not sad to see fatties go bye-bye, but now the only thing i see anymore from Rebels is Y-Wing TLTs. Aces lists are loving Poe right now, but comparatively it's not competitive.

Meanwhile the palpmobile is strong, Soontir is still Soontir, Advanceds just got a major buff and are all over the place, TIE swarms have been a thing that has made top 16 in tournaments consistently since freaking Wave 1, Phantoms are very much a thing again now that TLTs are in the neighborhood.

Dont even get me started on Scum, their only real option is brobots and, who would have guessed, TLTs. Tell me about all those Scum ships that are amazing. The Scyk? Cannon fodder. The Khyrax? Overcosted, underperforming. The StarViper? Too expensive.

It's funny, a lot of the complaining i see in this post, from a Rebel point of view, is just ludicrous. Scum players would be spitting mad too. Imperial players going to a tournament have way, WAY more options with their squad than a Rebel player does.

A Rebel ship never had to be debuffed because it was so powerful it broke the game.
