XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

Well I wouldn't take your word for it, this thread is now over 40 pages for bringing a ship into the game.

Not that I agree with him at all or anything, but lets be real here. This thread is a lot of the same people talking back and forth to each other.

So was practically every thread dedicated to a ship that wasn't in the game?

So was practically every thread dedicated to a ship that wasn't in the game?

Fair point. I'm just saying, just because this thread is longer, doesn't mean more people want the ship. It could just mean that the people that want it want it more. Or it could just mean there are more people arguing about it.

[...]

Well I stand corrected, looking at what you said above, why have we not got the Gunboat already?

Sounds like it could have been a wave 2/3 ship, if it has not appeared already then it never will. Especially now they have the new films and associated tie ins* Rebels etc to mine for new ships.

I believe the appearance of the Ghost and other ships( that cannot be talked about) is the final nail in the ugly x shaped coffin of the Gunboat, give up the dream XG1 fans, never gonna happen.

*see what I did there

Well I wouldn't take your word for it, this thread is now over 40 pages for bringing a ship into the game. People have been saying that about all sorts of things - no new factions, no Ghost, no new damage deck, FFG would never make the punisher and on and on. It hasn't stopped them, has it?

Where were the 40 page plus threads demanding the Ghost, K wing or Punisher?? Yes loads of people saying there would be no new faction or new starter set but look what happened. So following that logic FFG do exactly the opposite to what people expect, ergo no XG1

Flat-out: it has been brought up in at least one dev interview, they are aware of it.

That means precisely zip, it's the kind of things politicians say when they don't want to upset the voters( rabid XG1 fanboys)

So with all theses waves increasinginly adding more and more zany, obscure fighters, why do we not have it?

As already it's been pointed out to me, that this was probably one of the first ships Lucasfilms created for the X wing universe outside of the original trilogy.

For what it's worth? I'm still crossing my fingers for this one.

Like many of you, I spent a huge amount of time playing X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance. And the ships included in those games - including the TIE Defender, the Z-95, and the Assault Gunboat - all have that "true" Star Wars feel to them. Unlike the TIE Phantom, TIE Punisher, Decimator, Raider, K-Wing, etc.

In fact, the Assault Gunboat is the ONLY starfighter I'm still waiting on...

(...although the R-41 Starchaser might pique my interest as well.)

K-Wing and Punisher still feel Star Wars, though?

(I kind of wish it was still the TIE Interdictor and had some sort of mini gravwell projector, but oh well)

Gravity Mines.

To be honest, my theory regarding the TIE Punisher is everyone was so certain FFG would never do it, someone at FFG was like "ORLY - LULZ" and the rest was history.

The TIE Interdictor if it were grav wells would look like 2 bra's tied together.

And amazingly, possibly even uglier than the Punisher.

Ohh I know, for my sins I have SWBG. I'm just saying if they made a TIE Interdictor now...

If Wave 8 isn't the last wave of standard XWMG, we'll see the Gunboat.

As time goes on, the probability of seeing the gunboat will approach 1.

I Suspect, that as time goes on the probability of a nostalgia prequel wave or 3-5 will also approach 1, however this is itself mitigated by the sequel waves and movies, with how well they do, how many ships they bring in.

Also, I doubt Rebels has given us everything yet.

If they dip into the prequels I could see the Trade Federation being part of S&V. After all, the Trade Federation was an armed trade cartel that regularly supplied coups/seized worlds by force.

Eh...if they start doing prequels, then their going to have to assign the Republic and the Seperatist forces to either the Rebels or the Empire.

And weirdly, even though the "good/evil" sides are switched, thematically, it makes more sense for the Republic to be on the Empire faction and the Seperatist to be on the Rebel side. The Republic IS the Empire after all, and the Seperatists are the ones rebelling.

No! No, it doesn't! Everyone says that ONLY because The Empire is derived from The Republic but UGH. NO.

The Rebellion used a ton of Clone Wars era tech early on, man. Hell, we've seen that in Rebels! Converted Pelta Frigate, anyone? The Empire kicked that stuff to the wayside.

But, that doesn't mean everything they had was viable. The Empire wouldn't use any Clone Wars tech. Friggin' any. No, CIS stuff is gotten by Scum, because Scum needs cheap stupid easy to fix stuff, and The Rebellion doesn't want to use CIS technology, because why would they want to evoke that image to the galaxy?

So they use Republic stuff, since they're The Alliance to Restore The Republic.

It just makes more friggin' sense. Look at it this way.

Rebels get an ARC-170, Scum gets Vulture Droids, and what does The Empire get? More cool Imperial stuff, like the XG-1, the Missile Boat, TIE/SR Scout, and many more..!

If you think one of the two major factions of the Clone Wars is going to end up as Scum, you're going to be disappointed.

Scum is still scum, even in the Clone Wars era. There are tons of unaligned ships in the prequels and series. And those are going to be scum. At least they'll be getting the Mandalorians.

In fact, I think it's interesting the new core set introduces that idea of "Sub-factions" that act just like the regular factions. Now that they have that, it seems like Scum should be broken down into groups like Hutts, Black Sun, Mandalorians, etc.

But I guess I do think the Republic kinda has to be Rebels. If for no other reason than it would just feel too weird to have all those Jedi pilots flying for the Empire.

Wh-... Y-... What?

What?

Dude the CIS died at mustafar... I'm saying Scum gets their stuff because they salvaged it. Come on man.

Let's just hope no prequel ships are released. Then none of this matters. Also, less chance of prequel = more chance of assault gunboat.

Dude the CIS died at mustafar... I'm saying Scum gets their stuff because they salvaged it. Come on man.

And Vader died 30 years before the First Order TIE existed, but you'll still be able to fly them side-by-side.

I'm saying, when FFG finally starts doing Clone Wars stuff, they're going to just add Republic and CIS subfactions to the game.

Adding prequel stuff is messier than adding TFA for these reasons. TFA is same guys different name. Prequel is almost inverse. Prequel will likely require two whole new factions. In which case I wouldn't want it.

We get an average of what, two waves per year?

Wave 7 is about to come out.

Wave 8 likely won't arrive until first quarter of next year.

Wave 9 will inevitably be full of Episode 7 ships and arrive third or fourth quarter next year.

By this point Rogue One will be released, and Rebels will be further along, so Waves 10 and 11 in 2017 will probably be full of ships from those... Face it, the EU is probably coming to an end with Wave 8 aside from maybe the occasional Scum ship.

Unless of course they add the Gunboat to the upcoming movies. :)

I'm betting it's not going to matter.

This is the real solution. Put our obscure EU ships in the movies, then they'll have to add them to the game!

I suspect i'll be a little upset to find there won't be any TIE Defenders in the movie...

+1!

@Raynuk: got a pic of your ATR-6? Would love to see it

Yup!
