XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

...but if you're running Targeting Synchronizer, you're effectively relying on an entire other ship to get around the Gunboat's action efficency problems when it comes to ordnance.

Out of interest, what's your TS build?

It's true, however I don't feel it to be a significant problem as long as the efficiency is achieved (and Gunboat does need that action efficiency above all)

I'm using Quickdraw with DTF/AO/FCS/LWF , Backdraft with VI/TS/FCS/LWF and Karsabi with Crackshot/Harpoon/Chips.

It seems GUNBOATS have pretty much fallen off the front page due to TLJ craziness, but I haven't forgotten them! I just finished painting my squadron of Rho Squadron Veterans. More pics in the GUNBOAT thread in the Painting and Modification Subforum.

Such sweetness.

It is as I feared...

...picked up my Gunboats on Wednesday, played a couple of games on Thursday and, well, in terms of competitive usage I really can't look any further than the HLC.

Rho with HLC/Linked/Crackshot or Lightning Reflexes is basically superior to every other build as far as I can tell. As @Biophysical has pointed out elsewhere, Ordnance boats are currently DOA in comparison, because almost anything they can do, HLCs can do better, more reliably and with less set up.

At least we have an answer now to "Why is the Arc Caster Rebel/Scum only?". That thing on an Advanced SLAMing Gunboat would be brutal.

All that said, I love the models, and am looking forward to seeing what else the community can come up with. SHE HAS ARRIVED!

How strong were your hands shaking in excitement right in that moment? ?

First time playing with the gunboat tonight... ran this list:

Rho Squadron Veteran (21)
Crack Shot (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Linked Battery (2)
Long-Range Scanners (0)
XG-1 Assault Configuration (1)

Rho Squadron Veteran (21)
Crack Shot (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Linked Battery (2)
Long-Range Scanners (0)
XG-1 Assault Configuration (1)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

Total: 100

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

Won 100-32, 100-0, 100-0

I was really surprised at how easy it was to re-engage with them after the initial combat. They missed very few turns of shooting.

Ran this again at a small tournament...

100-0, 100-36, 100-0.

The damage it can dish out in the first round of shooting is brutal. Having to choose whether to disengage or try and get 1 more shot in is interesting. I really like quickdraw with them because his dial matches theirs so well.

Yeah I think that build is phenomenally strong...

I look forward for the "Gunboat OP", "Nerf Gunboat" threads.

That will be fun, but I was still hoping for the "Gunboat DOA" and "Check out this Gunboat fix I came up with" threads that inevitably lead to a Gunboat Aces Pack...

I think it's hilarious how even after getting the Gunboat, this thread hasn't died off.

That shows our commitment to the cause, that shows the fire burning in our hearts, and most importantly, it shows the GUNBOATS shadow on the horizon, instilling fear into the rebel scum as they release their demise is coming over the clouds.

Vader won't get them, Rho and Nu will.

•"Quickdraw" (40) - TIE/SF Fighter
Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Harpoon Missiles (4), Advanced Optics (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

Nu Squadron Veteran (30) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Seismic Torpedo (2), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

Nu Squadron Veteran (30) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Seismic Torpedo (2), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

won 3 in a row in store play against other tournament prep lists. But I think I’ll tinker with it more still

Did you run into other PS11 ships? Do you think going to 99 would be worth it? (Dropping one crack for A Score to Settle)

Are you getting much value out of that torpedo?

Very much so. Given I can reload them, not only do I consistently get a damage or two a game from them, but the threat of weaponizing obstacles after the first one is fired gives people fits. Now Dash and primed thrusters and wookies are having to calculate an extra risk into every move. Definitely worth 4 points... probably worth Rho/crack opportunity cost.

Seismics getting to go at PS2 makes it easy to catch high PS and agile/fast ships before they move and you still get to pop a linked HLC shot at worst in the Combat phase... plus early game you can set up possible QuickDraw triggers

Sounds tasty, I will try them out. :)

No 11's yet, but a bunch of 9's/10's. 2 games against kylo, a game against dengar/VI boba, a game against fat han/nym. I'm one of the few ace players in my local area. I'll probably get some practice in against a ps11 poe w/ title on Wednesday. My guess is that it'll be a pretty tough match.

I always worry about the double 11 imperial alpha (VI QuickDraw and VI Vader) that can erase a ship before it shoots.

I haven't played against it yet, but I definitely think it is winnable.

Funny bit about the PS11 alpha combo is i've noticed players using it tend to alpha whoever they can that isnt a random shmuck rather than hold off for the real problem.
I faced that with my deathrain + 2rhos list and deliberately had the gunboats too far away to attack, but Deathrain was up in his face. He either opted to not alpha the Punisher (which would be a VERY bad thing as that deathrain build eats aces for breakfast..not joking) or he gambles he can kill the punisher in 1 go...btw thats difficult as **** to do. I do this strat against a lot of lists and he always manages to get away with 1hp minimum, which is all i care about.

Triple harpoons kinda scares me though as the free damage basically makes it a "14 hit" attack. Though ive yet to see anyone run that personally.

I hearby move that the 22 point harpoon gunboat be called "Missile warning."

Completely agree with the above! Although you missed out:

"...instilling fear into the rebel scum, heretical non-believers and so called 'loyal imperial' denouncers that are in truth traitors..."

JBR7 is pretty quiet since the announcement of the GUNBOAT.
