Yeah exactly.
So that prevents the use of Deadeye or Targeting Synchronizer then.

My four GUNBOATS look so fun! I am so angry that I had a huge lab report due today and didn't get a chance to fly the things!![]()
I really, really want a chance to test them out with this list:
Quadruple GUNBOAT!!! (100)
Nu Squadron Veteran (25) - Alpha-class Star Wing
XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), "Mangler" Cannon (4), Flechette Cannon (2)

I have been so impressed by the clearly @Fractalsponge-inspired model that my GUNBOATS have been sitting on my desk for the last day (I can't bring myself to put them away with the rest of my ships). I'm actually worried they're not going to be the best ship ever game-play-wise, but I already know that they're my favorite model ever!
So that leads me to my next question: Epic. In Epic matches, I can fly twelve of these. If I recall, in the video games they almost always flew in squads of three. That means I can pick four different cool color schemes and paint my GUNBOATS in squads of three and get four different sets of color schemes! So I want to buy eight more. Is that crazy?
It has also 28hp to chew thru.
Maybe the mangler is the way to go.
I wish Karsabi worked with Adv SLAM. It sucks you have to complete your SLAM action before triggering Advanced SLAM. Experimental Interface it is then...
Hello, fellow GUNBOAT zealots! I have just completed this pdf that can be used with colored pencils or sharpie markers to plan out custom paint schemes for GUNBOATS! I plan on using it so that I can make sure I like a paint scheme before I go and mar my beautiful GUNBOATS with my (relatively marginal) painting. It might also make a pretty awesome coloring page, if you know the world's coolest toddler. Enjoy!

C'mon folks! You can't let this thread get to page 2! We still need GUNBOAT Aces, GUNBOATS to be canon, and GUNBOATS to be in Episode IX! (Actually, I'm still holding out hope they're in Episode VIII).
Here's some GUNBOAT eye candy for today - I just finished my first GUNBOAT repaint!

Unfortunately even if a Gunboat does appear in Ep. VIII it is likely to be like the Quadjumper from VII. A background shot only despite our desire to see it fly and be used in film format. I do hope they use Episode 9 as a chance to bring in the "old cannon" ships under the excuse of both sides being so exhausted and resource strapped they start breaking out the "museum" pieces just to put fighters in the stars. It'd be a perfect excuse to bring in Defenders, Avengers, Gunboats, Missileboats, E-Wings, K-Wings, etc. into the current cannon as they would have been cutting edge when built and passable against the current tech.

Not at all. Already been thinking about epic scale gunboat engagements...
For the sake of comedy value, I'm thinking about at least one three-ship 'flight' with scrambler missiles and a second with ion torpedoes.
Because the fact you're stood at the table doesn't mean you should actually get to play, you know?

I have hopes they will be in the young Han Solo film. Serious Disney, it would only need 2 seconds of screen time!
The lowly Raider showed up in one of the video games. Anything is possible!
I might be flying today and I'm trying to think of what to do with my Gunboats. I'm thinking of Long Range Scanners with Concussion missiles, Ion cannons and the XG-1 title for linked batteries... for theme, control, and stagehands for something heavy (my new TIE Silencer?)

Yeah! This is kinda what I was thinking of. Each squad of three has a unique feel, and they all have a gimmick they can still do when they SLAM! Ion Cannons are the one cannon I didn't put in there, just because I don't think ion is super useful against Epic ships and one of the most important things to do in Epic is nuke their huge ship(s) early so that you minimize the effectiveness of their regen.

Also, two more things.
1.) anybody who has posted more than 20 posts in this thread should get the option to have a GUNBOAT avatar on the forums. And there should be like ten GUNBOAT avatars so we don't get confused. (I'd be ok if they just brought back custom avatars too).
2.) @FTS Gecko, when you finally use that 10,000th post, it had better be a mile-long post in this thread!

It seems I need to keep dipping into this well to keep my hype up for my Gunboats that are still enroute. It seems the new ships have hit the mats around here and the stars so far (beyond the usual flood of Wookie wood and Miranda) is that kiddie cartoon bug and the BSF thing. It's been a weird week so far.
I need some gunboats....

This!
Also VIII and IX are too "future tech" for the antique gunboat.
Edited by EskandareOh my, why am I so bad flying this lovely ship? I've played just two games with it (two HLC Rho-Rho-Karsabi lists, one with Crackshots, the other with Lightning Reflexes) and got my *** served in both games. I do seem to be quite terrible coordinating the first combat turn.
And I'm really torned between Crackshot and LR. Guys, we need a title to equip two elites. Let's make some noise ![]()
I also need to test a double Gunboat-Silencer. Or QD or another ace.

Don't worry. Experience will come. My first few games with TIE strikers (with their speed 3 minimum move and lack of a 'proper' speed 1 turn) were an embarrassment of mutual collisions.
The Gunboat - be it played as a k-turn-less heavy laser platform or a SLAM-hit-and-runner - is so different to anything we've seen to date it'll take a while to get our heads around it.
I'm really looking forward to a furball at our local store, too.
I have a hankering to try Major Vnyder with Push The Limit and an Engine Upgrade, just to really mess with people's heads.
"I'm going to be....over there. Vaguely. Somewhere."
Hi all, I am hearing a lot of using HLC on the GUNBOAT but I am wondering about the value of using long range scanners.
I can see the benefit to getting target locks beyond R3 and at R3 and as you cannot use the HLC in range 1 you don't care about not getting locks at that range, so you are only missing out in range 2... However I do find that most of my fighting tends to happen at this range.
How is everybody finding using long range scanners or not on a HLC GUNBOAT?

Fine. It's a bonus thing, a way to use your actions when you're out of range and insure against complete blankouts on your primary target. You don't expect to be able to get a TL in the furball, you take focus actions there, when you're not SLAMming, and LInked Batteries gives you a reroll if you have to switch targets, which is usually enough.
I've only spent the lock on them once or twice that I can think of; it's more that it's free and you might as well because its downside is almost never an issue, than that it's good.
Good point thespaceinvader, I will fit them onto my ships for the next fight!

It provides full rerolls for the first round of combat. So it has at least that use for 0 points.
What is the alternative while carrying HLC?
The other modification upgrades are much more expansive and harder to justify on a ship that you want to keep cheap. Engine Upgrade doesn't make sense in Nus and Rhos, or on this ship in general.
The potentially really useful option is Vectored Thrusters, but that's not cheap.
These things are efficiency engines, they need to be kept cheap.

- Advanced SLAM is 2 more points, that I would only see useful for getting a focus for defense when preparing another attack run. You don't want it for the alpha strike, because you need to have used SLAM, and that prevents you from firing the HLC or your primaries.
- Guidance Chips is useless unless you bring some missile or torpedo along with the HLC. It might have use but it increases the cost of the ship. Perhaps some Ion Pulse Missiles for control in case there comes a large ship?
- Munitions Failsafe is a bit strange to pay for when your ship has Reload. It might make sense with Deadeye Flechette Torpedoes, since you don't want them hit if you have Munitions Failsafe. But that is 3 points and an EPT slot just for dealing 1 stress to a subset of ships.

Ah yes but the drawback is that you cannot get target locks at all at ranges 1-2.
