OK, after a bit of cleanup and assembly work, I can confirm that Gosric's Gunboat is an absolute beast of a model.
Now, where the hell can I get a can of black primer at this time of year?

Just get a can of black rustoleum. It's a bloody primer for crying out loud.
Well, since the creation time for Interceptors, A-Wings, and possibly even Defenders is being pushed back to pre-Yavin, maybe the Gunboat can be pushed back as well? We need to start spamming Gunboat images to Christopher Miller and Phil Lord and maybe they'll be included in the Young
Indiana JonesHan Solo Adventures.
I'm opposed to pushing newer designs to pre-yavin, never liked it for Interceptors and I like it even less now. It's one thing to have a prototype pop up and be worked on for 5-15 years, but dumping everything onto backwater planets makes little sense to me. It's up there with Chuck's therapy Ewoks in bad ideas.
For new concepts as the Stryker, I don't mind them finally getting new designs on board, but they need to stop turning every battle into special effects on rail shooters. It's gotten worse since the PT movies, and I can't even watch anything because they're so boring.
Edited by incinerator950Since when were TIE Interceptors put into a backwater? The ones we saw were at an elite Fighter Pilot academy.
Well as things stand the old fighter cannon has nearly been totally supplanted. The TAP and Tie Advanced had hyperdrives with no need of the Avenger, and Rebels isn't likely to just dangle the Defender in front of the audience so we'll likely have them before the first Death Star is even completed.
It makes little sense to pour all the resources into creating the TIE Defender and then hit the drawing board again to create the Gunboat. So if Gunboat fans want it in canon, it will have to fit with what Disney wants with the series, not with what we wish was maintained from Legends.

Making a prototype to Darth Vader's prototype craft is also silly. I'm not familiar with what the Rebels tards watched that episode, but its going to be redundant if they bother releasing a gunboat.
Which for the record, Disney can ignore it for all I care. All we want is a playable gunboat model for these games, Disney is just going to rehash and ruin it with everything else.
Edited by incinerator950Pictures will come, don't worry. Probably tomorrow or Monday.
Meanwhile...
Almost there...
...just been playing some X-Wing Alliance. Sent out in A-Wings to apprehend a traitor, pursued them through two sectors before finally getting them to give themselves up. Shot down a dozen of TIE's, then scarpered to the hyperspace buoy as the Empire sent some Interceptors my way.
Jump out, and just as I start to relax... green lasers, green lasers out of nowhere, and then a deadly collision...
The Gunboat's Revenge.

Anakin Skywalker built a high performace antigrav racer our of junk parts as a 10 year old. The Advance x1 isnt a prototype, it's Darth Vader walking into a Sienar factory.
Gunboat's best chance is to be something completely different- instead of the first hyperdrive/shields, it's changed to cheap, mass deployed ion weponry, that also has shields and hyperdrive.
Would be neat to see some political backstabbery between Cygnus and Koensayr resulting in the rejection of the latter's update for the Y-Wing in favor of the Gunboat.
I mean, the Gunboat has always been known as a pre-Yavin fighter. The fact that we have movies before ANH and Rebels airing on TV provides the perfect opportunity to introduce them even in line with when they were in Legends.
"Young" Han Solo is literally the ideal oppotunity. A smuggler running into Imperial customs patrols? Writes itself.

OMG, imagine the Gunboat in a Star Wars movie... (even if in a Star Wars story)

Thats it? No climactic battle with Zaaran's forces? Am I missing an expansion?

I've got the Steam version. It HAS the collecters edition, but because I'm playing mouse and keyboard, I can only play Classic.

At this point, I think it's obvious that when we get the Gunboat in this game, it's not going to be called an Assault Gunboat. FFG seems pretty committed to "Alpha-class Star Wing".
Which I'm okay with, because it fits the naming convention of all the other Cygnus ships we've been getting.
Now they just need to pick a greek letter to assign to the Missile Boat.

Completely agree. The TAP didn't need to exist.
Edited by DarthEnderXWhile Alpha Class might indeed make it into the name, the 'Star Wing' portion was always considered to be a nickname rather than an official title. It would be comparable to calling the Lambda the 'Lambda-class Space Cow'. It would either have to include the Xg-1 portion or put in the function of the craft such as Alpha Class Gunboat.
Alpha-XG1 Patrol Boat.

I would say it's a similar naming scheme as the Alpha-3 nimbus V-wing. 'Starwing' might be the nickname, or it could be the 'proper' name with Assault Gunboat being a nickname or even a very generic name like Fighter or Interceptor.
But then 'Super'-class SDs are canon while Executor class has been sent to legends, so whatever.

Or, or.
The Empire produced various prototypes, not just one, to see what would work, like real militaries!
Wow, crazy thought! I guess the TIE Avenger didn't need to exist either huh?

Who gives a ****. The Empire isn't a real military.
I don't need to see 50 different iterations on the same design just because that's how they design airplanes in real life.
I would have much preferred it if "Here's the prototype for Vader's ship. The Rebels blew one up on Lothal. Then we gave one to the Inquisitor(which the Rebels stole) and Vader(which he wiped out a fleet with). Then later, we gave some to the rest of the Inquisition." But it had all just been the x1.
At least the Avenger's got **** the x1 doesn't. There's no functional difference between the v1 and the x1. It's just another toy to sell.I guess the TIE Avenger didn't need to exist either huh?
