XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

Maybe FFG might do the same when they run out of ideas after the next movie.

18 month design lead time. They're 6 months into Ep 8 ships already.

Don't know about you, but I can't wait for the palette-swapped white on red A-Wing, and a palette-reversed white on black TIE something-or-other.

Speaking if GW, I played a bit of THQ's Space Marine tonight. Man, that game was gold. Shame we're unlikely to ever see a sequel.

Need to check out Space Hulk: Deathwing.

I maxed my character out in the first week of that game. I miss Plasma Cannons and how Raptors required intelligence and skill to use with a power sword or chain axe. The amount of Chapter and Legion/Warband love was great, and I miss playing games when you could identify the guy next to you as a Pre-heresy World Eater or a Death Watch member.

Don't think I maxed out, but I definitely played a lot of it. Never completed Chaos Unleashed though, made it to the final wave and crashed and burned every time. And only played Dreadnought Assault once.

Really well put together game, though.

It was a rushed game, and you could easily see it compared to the rog elements they cut. It is still solid though, and I got all the achievements before dropping off the map.

Don't worry, we'll get a speshial farces TIE with extra red stripes.

Totally completed chaos unleashed on the xbox and have the cheevs to prove it. Need to do the same on the PC.

New GW Is amazing.Hence we have traitor legions, inquisitorial agents, Deathwatch, Genestealer cults etc.

At this point I bet they'd release an Assault gunboat..

Deathwing. Because I use a Radeon R9 rather than Nvidia I am currently lapping up peoples tears, I can run the game max full settings at a steady and smooth FPS with no crashes.

It's a good solid game, co-op is amazing, SP is decent too, what truly surprises me is that the storytelling is way better than what I thought it'd be.

Well that's good to hear. I was hoping it was good.

There isn't anything like Dawn of War's fantastic "Army Painter" feature is there?

They also had a lot of high end pre-made skins, Space Wolves and Death Guard were really popular. You couldn't customize them unless you glitched the order, and I had a mixed Salamanders and Alpha Legion skin I toted around when I was bored of my Raptors Chapter or Pyre Warband colors.

Who doesn't love space Vikings who drink all day and womanize all night.

GW when they're trying to remain as politically correct about a teenage setting of powered armored killing machines.

Well that's good to hear. I was hoping it was good.

It's similar, Your customization for Chapter badges is limited but they have many important Chapters and Warbands. Color customization was really good though for armor paint, and Loyalists had access to Mk IV, VI, VII, VIII, and ceremonial suits like a relic pattern. Chaos had a variety of demonic and spikey paterns.

Very nice. I was worried about that, but the Army Painter is honestly my favorite feature in Dawn of War.

From what I understand, the 40k mmo isn't a upgrade. Regardless painting and faction identity are important to me, and goes all the way back. I used to be good at things too.

I miss the game, but clan politics and being stuck between three gangbanger groups who abused the inherent failures of the last patch drove me off multiplayer.

I'll be real, I honestly just play Ultimate Apocalypse.

Though for the MMO... Er, it's... Bad, honestly. I will say this though, I really want them to add the Tau.

I keep hearing the mmo is just awful, where as Deathwing seems to be Demon's Souls lucky and hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately like Space Marine, I haven't touched ACFA in a long time. Or Battlefront. Or several games for that matter.

Let me put it in perspective. You know how Space Marine was an adequate game that presented both decent gameplay that was actually challenging here and there, and a character that was more believable than Cato Sicarius will ever be?

Take out every part of that but leave the engine in, screw it up a little and you have the MMO.

Eternal Crusade is a mess.

Deathwing is great as long as you have an R9 rather than nvidia, basically.

...so it's pretty much up to Disney whether we'll see it now.

On the bright side,if the TIE Striker has moving wings then there's no reason why FFG couldn't do a Gunboat with folding wings...

Like the model too???!!

Yeah, I heard from testers on the Slaanesh group that the game has a number of problems, without talking about balance.

The only people who like Cato are Ward fans, where as you should like Kato instead.

Just had a thought in another thread. At the rate FFG releases waves each year compared to Disney's ability to create new episodes of Rebels and put out new movies, just how long can they continue to release new ships without either folding back to new releases of old ships or going to Legends ships in order to fill in the gaps?

If they run out of steam, the game is done. They'll need ships like the Gunboat to tide them over during the dry spells between movies or whatever new ship Sabine has touched in Rebels.

We've already had the bloody K-Wing and TIE Punisher released in a wave. Who is going to tell me with an ounce of truthfulness that these two ships were more popular or well known than the Gunboat?

Even if it is at the bottom of their barrel of ideas, if FFG has to choose between releasing the Gunboat or forgoing the profits of a new wave, we'll see the Gunboat eventually.

The Eldar are friggin broken.

To be fair, me and my friends were all shaking our heads and saying "What the hell is a TIE Phantom?" when Wave 4 was released. And I had no idea what a HWK-290 was either.

Personally, I never knew about Shadows of the Empire or Star Wars Galaxies, didn't stop me buying a YT-2400 or (lots of) Kihraxz and Scyks though.

There's some beautiful ships from the X-Wing PC games which have yet to see a release, not just the Cygnus Spaceworks ships either.

On the otherhand, the K-Wing and TIE Punisher I had to look up. Had never seen either of them before.

I definitely knew what a TIE Phantom was, and while I didn't know what an HWK-290 was, I knew the Moldy Crow when I saw it.

Same here I'd played rebel assault 2 (I was young and stupid) and am a massive dark forces fan.

The k and punisher were unknown to me.

I already knew what all of the EU ships were before getting into X-Wing. I didn't play EaW Battlegrounds and the RTS games, but I did know what the TIE Interdictor and Advanced Bomber were before the Punisher rename. I also played Rebel Assault 2, and I beat TIE Fighter. Only ships I'm not familiar with are Disney and a handful of scum craft as I didn't play Galaxies.

The Eldar have been overpowered for years. GW's answer is to just make everyone overpowered, but Eldar are easily the easiest to cheese.

Except orks and nids which haven't been good in going on a decade.
