To be honest, I don't see the appeal of the Gunboat. It looks too much like a Lambda with extra guns/missile launchers. I'd much rather have the Skipray Blastboat, as the aesthetics are completely new and different, and it has a lot of firepower. However, I do respect you guys who want it so much, and would like to see you get it.

The similarly to the Lambda is kind of the entire point to me - a starfighter that shares the Lambda's aesthetics (because it was built by the same company) and because if that, differentiates itself from the TIE series while maintaining an iconic Imperial look.

I do love the Skipray as well though, and that would be a brilliant ship to introduce a primary ion wePon attack.

I really hope Skipray and YT-2000 show up at some point. Fortunately they're prime candidates for re-canonization, which (especially if it happens in Rebels) would make them shoe-ins.

I don't know if the Gunboat falls into that category, since it saw such limited non-videogame use in Legends. But as I mentioned before, Tarkin expressing disdain for disposable unshielded fighters in his novel gives me some hope that he would use his rank in the Empire to commission a modern equivalent to the Y-wing in the form of the Assault Gunboat.
