I'd say APT is a waste of points on anyone other than Guri personally, and iffy even then.
My usual Redline is FCS/Proton/Cluster/EM/Chips.

I like the range 1 punch. Concussion (or primary) at range 3 to get the TLs from FCS, then move up into range 1 and focus. 3 blanks become focues+GC means min of 4 hits, prob all 5.

So until we do get it, what do people think is the closet ship to use as a gunboat?
Y-Wing. Swap the Turret slot for a Cannon slot, the Torpedo slots for Missile slots. Ditch the Astromech slot.
And use the X-Wing dial.

With BTL-A4 integrated, I could back this up.
Backing up to last page's discussion about the death of flight sim hardware, has anyone thought about using a Nintendo Wiimote as a joystick for that sort of game? (for those without a Wii series console, there's a bluetooth hack to use the Wiimote as a PC periperial)
The ergonomics could use work, as it's designed for pointer games, but the gyro/acceleromiter sensors are more than capable of detecting how far you tilt a vertically held wiimote resting on your leg or desk...
Sounds plausible, although trying to map a keyboards' worth of commands and shortcuts onto a controller might be fiddly.
I'm sure it could be done, though...

If I was doing a console port, (bacause a PC with bluetooth wiimote still has keyboard), I'dactually use the Wii U gamepad as the "control panel", using only face buttons and touchscreen to map commands, and copy stuff like next/prev/closest/newest target, weapon switch, and perhaps 1-2 others to the wiimote buttons.
So the WiiU gampad would be lying flat on one leg with your hand hovering over it, and the wiimote would be your flightstick, resting on the second leg.

This is totally offtopic in this thread, but I think I would go for using the nunchuk for pitch/yaw/roll and the wiimote for interacting with the cockpit's instruments directly if you aim at the dashboard, or for finer shooting control if you aim at the viewport.
For more advanced stuff that doesn't have a proper instrument on the cockpit dashboard, you could have the WiiU gamepad or just contextual options tied to the "cross" like in Rogue Squadron games.
For PC, a USB controller with analog thumbsticks and many buttons to map is more than enough for most of the combat activities.
I just want to justify paying for a f**kexpensive flight yoke. Then you'll (eventually) get pics of me in full BRIAN with a flight yoke playing TIE Fighter.
Dat's glory, right there JBR7.
Cheap PC 360 controller. Job done.
Back on topic, I hear that Rogue One is undergoing four weeks if expensive reshoots because the Disney executives demanded more GUNBOAT.
I've tried the 360 controller in xwing.
ewww
I felt dirty and plugged my wingman in, even that' not ideal cause real TIE pilots use a yoke.

I've heard they're trying to adjust the tone. Punch it up with some GUNBOAT.

Yoke, pedals, targeting assistance, HUD...I want the full setup but the wife has kiboshed the simulator I want to build.
Yeah having a wife and kids does shut down totally unnecessary purchases... I admit, I don't have enough space flight games that support it to justify the sim stuff.

I've been meaning to construct a complete simulator with yoke, pedals, and flip-switches that correspond to the right keyboard commands, and even if it's just for TIE Fighter, XvT, and XWA it will be completely worth it.

I don't think that the XvT era games could even fully support it.
I have my doubts about XWA.

I've put way too much thought into making it happen and I think a Raspberry Pi 3 running Win98 should be able to survive the setup just fine. Dismantling a keyboard to turn into Falcon-cockpit-style switches, plus the joystick....
...it all works in theory! Saving up for it is the only reason it hasn't worked yet!
In theory yes...keybindings to control will work, especially if you use a modified keyboard. I'm not confident of xw series allowing multiple peripherals. An old 98 box with a voodoo though....
yes, that has promise. You'll need a monitor that supports it best, preferably square and huge - widescreen won't cut it.
You will be limited in resolution, xvt at best supports only 640/480 I think. Maybe 800/600.

Definitely a concern but with some creative wiring I should still be only plugging in a joystick and a keyboard total.
It's definitely doable, and if you pull it off with an old keyboard then I truly commend your efforts.
Way beyond my level of skill.
We are getting too far off track. So here is something to help get us back to what we should be talking about here...

GUNBOAT!!!
GUNBOAT!
BUNGOAT!
And now I want to use Photoshop...
