XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

Because some people have never played TIE Figher, I thought I'd drop this here. Very good look at why it's so good and fascinating and still holds up today!

There's a good point at the end of the video. Even though I've played hundreds if not thousands of hours combined of all the games in the X-wing series, I never put together how cleverly immersive it is to have to reach to your keyboard and find that obscure key combination that transfers more energy from lasers to shields, as if you were managing a real cockpit console. So for the maximum immersion try NOT to map all the keys into the joystick or worse, a gamepad.

So we agree once we have the gunboat the dx-9 is our next crusade?

I assume by "we" you mean the Gunboat people who are too cool to ask for TIEs like a normal person. In which case, I still assume you folks are going to move on to the Missile Boat.

The avenger will come without a crusade they had their chance to use avenger in the advanced fix and didn't.

Ties don't need a crusade non ties do.

Honestly if the next tie is 2 attack I will cry.

I think one of the designers mentioned in a podcast/interview that the Empire had enough two dice attack ships.

But, much like you, if we DO get another 2 attack dice ship I'm going to jump off a very small cliff.

The X-Wing series is still one of the best video games series I've ever played, and certainly the best Star Wars games I've ever played (closely followed by KOTOR). The X-Wing branding is one of the main reasons my friends and I picked up the miniatures game in the first place.

Still wish there was a Star Wars branded Elite-style game out there though.

I think the designers said they didn't want another 2att 3 Agi ship. GUNBOAT would not have 3 Agi, and a cannon slot can easily give it 3 or 4 reds

After that, who knows? I really want the TIE Avenger even though the TIE advanced title has kinda stolen its role...

Nah the avenger will be the super interceptor high risk high reward where the advanced is a solid dependable tank.

Gunboat being 2attack is fine because you have missiles and a Canon slot.

I won't cry. I won't hurt myself. I will be rather put out, and will certainly be irritated if we do get another 2 attack TIE.

Pinning a lot of hope on TIE Defender Veterans, like many of us here right now.

After that, who knows? I really want the TIE Avenger even though the TIE advanced title has kinda stolen its role...

I'd say the TIE Adv. Prototype actually fits slightly better, due to coming with the Boost action as standard, and being slightly more manueverable than the Advanced. That, combined with Evade as a free action, might make it a slightly better proxy.

It's a little too fragile - but taking the Hull Upgrade or Stealth Device might fix that.

No, I think you're correct there. Even in game it would die rather easy once it's shields went down. The trick was hitting the little bastards. And flying as the Inquisitor gives the 3 attack feel.

Regular advanced with ATC does it as well to similate the 3 attack.

Make it a cheaper slightly less capable defender? I can get behind that. Pretty much what it was (well, defender was an upgraded is all areas Avenger, but same idea)

*edit* I think the Avenger would be a perfect ship for a sengors loop rather then the K-turns

Yeah, the GB makes the most sense with a 2/2/5/3 or 2/1/4/4 stat line, possibly even a little more hull or shields. The Cannon slot lets the attack be boosted. It should have a Tie/D style dual shot upgrade. I would say you pool primary and secondary dice into a single attack which if it hits deals damage up to the max damage of each and triggers any effects like ion or stress tokens.

That would be a better ability for the Missile Boat IMO. 2 ordance with 1 TL

Missile and Cannon I could see, but generally it linked Ion and Cannon fire.

The Missile Boat packed the missile blasts for obvious reasons.

No to primary 4. It only had a single laser on it. It's main weapon(s) were the insane amount of missile it could throw. Primary of 1, but with a special title/system (like the Advanced ATC) that says you do not discard you TL or something when firing ord.

Ideally, its primary weapon would be missiles, with the laser cannon as a secondary. However, I don't see how to write the rules for that and get them to fit on a card. :)

I like the base ship.

Put Advanced Sensors in the System slot and it serves as a TIE/rc or as the actual TIE Vanguard.

Put a Fire Control System in the System slot and it serves as a TIE/fc.

What about the first native attack 0 ship but with a lot of ordinance slots/cannon slot and a cheap cost?

I would agree earlier, but I've recently once again played TIE Figher campaign and the key issue is Gunboat is a bloody large target, difficult not to hit, but nice to fly.

A barrell roll would be very good, possibly with no cost rise.

Disagree, Gunboat should be THE Imperial small base ship with no repositioning, like it's big daddy, the magnificent white space bison.
