Anyway, the Gunboat was flown in so many missions I've lost count performing all kinds of tasks.

Yep, the Gunboat taking aesthetic design cues from the Lambda shuttle is kind of the entire point.

The Heavenly Void Manatee is a beautiful, beautiful ship. And so are it's deadly little cousins.

TIE Boarding Craft came before Bombers and Shuttles.

But yeah I don't get the hate poor lil GUNBOAT gets based on some bias against the Great White Space Cow. To me it hardly resembles a Lambda at all. But then I'm basically attuned to spot the minute differences in TIEs and other ships (thanks ADHD!) and quickly spotted the differences between the /fo and /ln TIEs, so the 'too much like the shuttle' argument really doesn't hold water.

I think that image really drives home that the missiles are NOT factory standard. they're clearly attached just foreward of the wings.

With them gone, there's plenty of space for a 2 seat cockpit, that doesnt require popping the hatch up like an Xwing.

Fighters in Star Wars are actually a fair bit smaller than actual starfighters would be. They also lack many common sense conventions.

There is absolutely nothing "Personal Shuttle" about the Gunboat, much as the TIE Defender's wings will never, ever spin.

I'm guessing the lateral wing guns were changed from the original depiction because they did loo a bit puny. The new guns look pretty serious.

I'd love to see a version that moves the ion cannons to where the missile box launcher are now, adds a 3rd laser at where the ions are now... and give it the Bwing Prototype Composite Beam weapon.

Yes! This! It seems that those who make this comparison also sing praises for the Tie s/f.

Except that the TIE Shuttle is the same exact chassis as the TIE Bomber, while the TIE/SF has noticieble differences ifyou actually look at it- from a rear viewport, 2 small thrusters on the side of the ball, that is no longer ball shaped since it tapers down to triangles at the back, the underside turret, and the cogs against the wings.

There are more differences between the TIE/LN + TIE/Fo and the TIE/SF than the T-70 compared to the T-65.

TIE Shuttle does have differences with the Bomber. At least it's supposed to. No chute for one, and a different looking front end to the port fuselage. And possibly inverted wings on some models. The Boarding Craft is also a different enough design with its grappling docking mechanism in place of the hexagonal 'missile port' and different crew configuration than the shuttle.
