XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

So if everyone has listened to the wonderful guys from Scum and Villainy as they interviewed the designers of our lovely game, they now understand that these guys don't really have a solid design or FAQ strategy; which is honestly troubling, but explains a lot about why the game is currently so imbalanced and seemingly no FAQ is coming to the rescue.

However, it was clear that they, as a design team, were quite influenced by this amazing thread. They seemed to have bought into the hype and appear to truly enjoy the excitement surrounding the Gunboat. If you missed it:

On the topic of the Scum and Villainy Podcast interview with the designers, did you hear Max (I think) talk about strategy? He says a single Gunboat makes for a pretty mean flanker, especially with SLAM to get it into position. Honestly, it reminds me of how they would drop out of hyperspace and lock on in the old flight simulator games, so the designers seem to have nailed the theme. So excited!

But if it's a great "flanker" we may not be seeing a 180 manuever, consistent with the only other naturally SLAM capable ship (K)

Which I REALLY hope isn't the case. The thing was obviously built around SLAM, but linked batteries double cannon slot also gives it the option to just screw subtly and punch straight for damage on the level of DEADEYE SCURRG.

Not having a K would really stifle that flexibility (esp since you can fire HLC without tokens, as opposed to DEADEYE ordnance,)

Well what if GUNBOAT has 5k or 4 red straight and 4K?

Yes, sir. It needs a 4k or a 3k to attack, run and re-engage in a more advantageous position. Relaying on hard turns via slam sounds very cumbersome.

This is a ship that the game designers have apparently been anticipating releasing until they can give it ALL the cool toys. This is going to be the Imperial Jumpmaster.

To hit jm5k status, the ps 7 would have to be 23 points and the boat would need two mod slots (ASLAM + chips) and ps 9

Even then it doesn't have a PWT and probably won't have an absurd dial

I am envisioning a post errata x7 or DEADEYE SCURRG level of competitive viability bolstered slightly by SLAM's GTFO utility v bombs. That's for linked HLC Nus specifically, and those buggers better have an ept for Crackshot

I have a feeling the ps 7 will be sporting ASLAM PTL ordnance that fires through weps disabled, but I also feel it'll be too expensive to be incredibly amazing

I also give even odds on the silencer PS4 having an EPT. Ever since the Tie Inquisitor, imperial non-shuttles, non turrets have had EPTs.

I think one thing we can all agree on, at least, is that given how much sand and debris is in there, the Empire really needs to fire their maid service.

3k dream, but I'd also be fairly happy with a 3-talon. That would open up some really interesting possibilities with SLAM.

1 point = option at extra evade and a successful hit, torp slot, 1 PS, and balance out the hull however you want, but man.

Ghost v Dauntless is just sad.

Neither punisher not generic interceptor are good enough to hold up to ANYTHING favorably

If anything, it just makes me happy that the protectorate and SCURRG aren't utter garbage wastes of development time and some really nice models

Ditch the Hull Upgrade on the Saber Squadron and give it Push the Limit instead and the comparison is a bit more interesting.
