How would we feel if the Gunboat was released as a First Order ship, or even a Resistance ship? (If the Alliance used ARC-170s, that were the previous regime military surplus stuff, the Resistance could do the same with the Empire's, right?)

Some of you guys certainly know how to ruin my day...

As not a fan of the gunboat I'd be okay with a first order variant. Tech slot would fit into the high tech image the ship has.

They just need to understand that it makes them inferior...impure...unclean.

It was this kind of rigid, dogmatic thinking which caused the destruction of the Imperial fleet at Endor.

Give me a flight of Gunboats with concussion missiles and ion cannons, and the Falcon would have never made it into the Death Star...

I'll give you some TIE Hunters instead, which do the same job, but faster.

Nah, you're OK thanks. I don't do Mary Sues.

The logic follows, of course, but I think the ARC-170 made the transition so well because it was one of the "good guy" ships.

If a Gunboat showed up with no Imperial pilots, I would be pretty disappointed.

(I'd still buy a few, because I have a problem, but...)

As a Rebel/Resistance player (primarily), I'd be livid if the Gunboat showed up on that side of the war. It NEEDS to be an Imperial or First Order ship, no exception.

Technically, a large percentage of Rebel/Resistance tech and personnel were Imperial in origin.

The X-Wing, Wedge, Nebulon B Frigates, Crix Madine... the Alliance was full of traitorous turncoat scum and stolen property.

But yes, PLEASE keep Sabine Wren away from our Gunboats.

Actually, even Sabine Wren started out life in the Imperial Academy.

Soooo...yeah, I'd LOL if we finally got an Imperial Assault Gunboat...with Sabine Wren as a pilot. (lololololol)

They've overdone Sabine..... Chopper will be the pilot.

All right ffg, I haven't even played any of the games and such that had it...but really, it's time.

The sad thing is the Falcon would have still made it into the Death Star.

Because plot Armor.

I have faith in the Gunboat, but even the Glorious ship it is couldn't hope to stand up against The Force shenanigans.

a miniatures game in which already features many non-canon EU ships

Even better: a game which latest release was 2 EU ships and only 1 Disney Canon ship ^^

You might want to specify which chances (of Gunboat!!?) you are referring to...

How's the latest on the gunboat discussion?

Are there any new Ship stat title/condition ideas to keep the proposed expansion up to current cancer meta standards?

(And no, I'm not suggesting that is has access to every move, all moves green, additional attacks equal to number of shields remaining, etc)

I think the closest we've come to it recently was discussing the merits of including the "Jam" action on the Gunboat, either on the action bar or as part of a "Jamming Beam" weapon upgrade a couple of pages back. Coordinate and Reinforce have already made an appearance in standard play after all, so this seems like a natural progression and would fit the Gunboat's role. The consensus was that Jam would be really powerful in 100/6 play especially on a cheap frame, but a slightly toned down version might be good.

There's also the possibility of introducing Mag Pulse weapons or upgrades.

To be honest, I haven't really looked at revising my own homebrew rules for a while; I certainly haven't really thought about conditions. @Odanan might have some suggestions though!

Most of the ideas are here (even if some stuff, like the Mag Pulse are in other custom expansion).

:)

Yes, yes, the above is all good for discussion but!

What I'd like to know is (because I'm not in the US) how many brethern and sisterens will be representing at GenCon with T-Shirts reading: "Show me your Gunboat, Please!"

:D

So I have a pair of HAN SOLO MOVIE related hypotheticals, wherein Disney gives our favorite ship a makeover to better fit the film, and how this would affect the stats it should have.

Situation 1: 5 wing "Imperial escort shuttle" (yes, I know, ignore the games for now) armed with lasers, ion, and a tractor beam that the falcon can overpower and break away from, but the ability to track han through hyperspace.

Situation 2: 3 or 5 solar panel, tie cockpit+missile launchers, ions, shields, everything, but called "TIE/SW" with an official name not at all related to the starwing. Chases Han at some point, perhaps forces him to dump cargo?

You know, it wouldn't surprise me if Disney used it eventually. Rebels re-introduced (and slightly altered/amended) the Interdictor Cruiser, Admiral Thrawn and the TIE Defender.

Sure, there's the Han Solo film. And a film about a young smuggler will inevitably feature run ins with Imperial patrols. But there's also talk of Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt films further down the line.

What Disney's shown me in the time they've had the franchise is that - although they rebranded the EU and are settling into a new canon structure - they're keen on cashing in on nostalgia in the franchise. The classic McQuarrie designs in Force Awakens (plus OT actors), the use of archive footage in Rogue One, the aforementioned canonized material in Rebels... although they want to drive the franchise forward they're happy to look ot the past for inspiration.

And there's certainly a lot of money in nostalgia.

Come on FFG, new announcement.
My current all things Star Wars wishlist:
I want XG-1s, X-wing/TIE Fighter/XvT HD Editions.
Dark Forces HD.

Something Like Empyrion/Star citizen where you can co-op have your own base ship/space station/planetside base and run missions against the Empire (Look, those that know me know I love to play Imperial, but this setup works better as Rebel).

**** a Boba Fett FPS.

Basically>> MOAR STAR WAHS!

It happened!!!!
