Correct - if at the end of the round your opponent has no ships in play, you win.

How about:

At the start of the 'place forces' step, you may assign 2 / up to 3 tracking tokens to this card. If you do, do not place this ship into the play area.
At the end of the combat phase, remove one token from this card. At the start of the end phase, if this card has no tokens, place this ship on any board edge and discard this card / At the end of the round, remove one token from this card. This ship must be placed on any board edge at the start of any end phase before all tokens are removed from this card.

Now the wording of the first line makes it optional, so you can put it on every ship, but still deploy at least 1 at the start (so you don't auto-lose).

Added are my suggestions for being able to stagger reinforcement deployment. :)

So it's better to make it cost 0.

Yeah...

Probably better having minimal text on the upgrade and then a reference card.

I swore I would never play in competition until the Gunboat was released. I have stopped buying X-Wing miniatures until the Gunboat is made.

And Odanan's proposal of Linked Ion canon card, and many other suggestions that have been made to keep the 2 primary but somehow add an extra die or result here and there.

I think the Gunboat is okay at having 2 dice primary as long as it gets compensated with something extra that increases its real firepower.

In the original X-wing PC game they are great at firing their twin laser cannons at something while, at the same time, they get a target lock and release a missile every now and then. That makes them much more dangerous than they look.

Agreed!

It needs Attack 2, to keep it cheap and to make possible a focus on ordnance and/or cannon. If they give it Attack 3, it will just be a slower/tanky TIE Defender.

That would allow for 4 Gunboats with Heavy Laser Cannon and Fire Control System (as long as they all equip that title).
I know you cannot bring all 4 otherwise you lose the game in the first round due to lack of ships on the board. But still, it is pure powercreep from 4 B-wing with FCS. (It is still powercreep if you bring one with Mangler, Collision Detector and no title)

The title is up to discussion, but I hope the ship will be better priced than the B-Wing. A better comparison is the Y-Wing.

Besides, B-Wing has 3 Primary Attack: it won't be optimized when using Cannons (because you already payed for the natural 3 Attack). Working as intended, IMHO.
