XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

Actually, I've been thinking about this. The Empire has large crew carriers already, but the TIE Shuttle title for the Bomber seems a bit half-assed. The Phantom is another crew carrier, but its not quite intended for the job of a support ship, I think.

I actually wouldn't mind a well designed, small-based crew/support ship like the HWK (with a better dial, ya know, well designed). TIE Shuttle just seems more like a Veterans box patch of, "Well, the Bomber currently sucks at ordinance, so uh, to fix it, we made it not carry ordinance anymore. Ta-dah!"

So... yeah, I might like to see the TIE Reaper.

TIE bomber was used as a shuttle in the original movies. Just saying... but yes, an Imperial HWK like vessel would be nice. A Skipray could be made small based, it'd fill in well... lore wise it's shorter than the HWK, after all.

Though a trainer Gunboat could work too. :P

This really hit home for me last night. I'd put the HWK on the table for the first time in at least 6 months, there was a Quadjumper opposite me. His first move was to reveal a 3 bank, a WHITE 3 bank!
It's literally just 4 engines strapped together yet it has a far superior dial to an actual spaceship. -_-

But the new ones will have t-rolls and an extra shield and tech slot and cost 3 pts more. And not have a missile slot for Refit. And feature unique pilots like 'Green Ace' and 'Gold Ace' and that first pilot that dies in the big battle.

Most of the the A-wing pilots are nobodies who die. The difference is someone took the time to give them names.

Hmm...doesn't seem too much larger. No more than the already burly ARC or TIE Punisher.

Maybe /shrug

I honestly don't see why it wouldn't be. It didn't look too be much bigger than the Striker... and if they are wiling to cram the ARC, K-Wing and H-6 onto a small base, I see no reason for a TIE Reaper not to be a small based ship. At least the U-Wing had the excuse of having nifty fold out wings to justify it's base size.

$20 'medium' base

Is that a promise for the card you plan on designing?

No promises, but I will use my powers for good.

Well, you are right... they can go back now.

But instead of adding ordnance pods to the Bomber (which, to be honest, has ENOUGH ordnance, the Empire could seek a completely new, versatile ship to use... one that has shields, hyperspace, utility cannons and ordnance.

Quoted this because I liked the model.

At this point, I truly am surprised we've not seen the Gunboat by now. To me, the Aggressor is a bit of a tipping point. It's the first ship since the punisher where I don't get why "this" instead of the Gunboat.

My hope is that the Gunboat just takes more time to get right than the Punisher. I mean it's a turret tie with rockets... done. The Gunboat, they have to get right but not just rip off the community designs.

May sound cynical but I honestly think they're just holding off until sales drop because they know it's guaranteed money.

To be fair to the TIE Aggressor, it fills a niche in the Imp fleet: a turret.

The only problem is that it, as with the other SWG-exclusive imperial designs, is ass ugly and frankly kinda stupid.

Plus there are several other better candidates for the Imperial Turret Ship (TIE sf)

Consider that it's probably half as long again as a Striker and a Striker is already longer than a small base.I'd not remotely object to seeing it, but it should be a large base, unfortunately.

Now, Krennic's shuttle, THAT could be a small base. It's only about a quarter again as long as an x-wing, so not that much bigger than a Striker, if the wings are folded up.

Yeah, doing a bit of napkin math, It would be around 25m long, which would put it more along the lines of a large base than small.

Also, just slightly longer than an ARC-170 is wide

I stand corrected.

Oh God, no, God, please no.

Krennic's shuttle is the most stupid design in Star Wars: a shuttle with an inside area so small that it can't transport people and an exterior area so large that it can't get into capital ships. It beats Kylo Ren's monstrosity.

That's why it is his "personal" shuttle.

But don't worry, even Sienar didn't like the design. (See Wookieepedia)

The HWK is 29 meters long... small bases just fine

I imagine an Episode 8 wave will be late fall/early winter...are we still hoping for the possibility of a gunboat this year or have we slipped now to 2018? :(

I've been saying for awhile now that it is likely slated for recanonization as a Customs Gunboat in the Han Solo antholigy.

I'd take it. Though I'd think a Skipray might drop into that slot too.

No it isn't. Wook is wrong. The Crow is no larger than 18m.

This will never be correct, stop saying it.

Well good, was curious why it was so off scale. And yes I checked the wook.
