XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

I should have recognized it when I went looking for other EU TIEs.

Five wings for me. Those extra wings aren't accessory.

They are supposed to be the extra shrapnel pieces for when enemies of the empire blow up a gunboat, it explodes like a grenade, killing its killer with her.

Or hasn't that happened to anyone in the old X-Wing games?

Its not a bug... its a feature. Would love to see an upgrade card for this.

Something like a DMS except it deals a face up damage. Many were the evenings that I got too cocky hitting a Gunboat with all four lasers of my X-Wing only to suddenly see my ship spinning out of control and exploding when the resulting wreck hit me. Or a fully shielded Y-Wing taken down to no shields and a few points of hull after being rammed by some Mu or Nu nutjob. Was a frantic escape to hyperspace to be sure assuming your hyperspace wasn't broken down for five minutes. Even more fun was had if your lasers and ions got friend in the process so you lost all charge to put into the shields. And then seeing that yellow flashing light turn red from the next wave of Gunboats while the hyperspace computer makes sure you're rotated JUUUUUUST right before you make the jump to lightspeed.

Gotta rotate right man don't want your wing clipping a photon that'd end your day real fast.

I can definitely say that I've never clipped a photon torpedo in X-Wing ;)

Buddy of mine did run into an untargeted space bomb in TIE Fighter though.

Speaking as someone who's made and worn a TIE pilot helmet, there's one major issue they have with visibility, and it's nothing to do with the SHIP at all...

(Visibility in a TIE pilot helmet is so awful I'm forced to assume they have some sort of built in HUD. Or that the terrible visibility explains why they pop so easily, because they literally can't see ships flying straight at them if they're below about halfway down the ship's cockpit....)

Stormtrooper might be terrible shooters because of their helmet too. :P

That's exactly why Boba Fett, a clone trooper, was so much better at shooting.

...and then seeing that yellow flashing light turn red from the next wave of Gunboats while the hyperspace computer makes sure you're rotated JUUUUUUST right before you make the jump to lightspeed.

"Almost there... almost there... just one.. more... clic-"

Can't be as funny as dumb firing broton bombs in people's faces.

Or tractoring a fighter into a Star Destroyer.

I think a space bomb would be great in this game. A bomb that moves speed 2 or 3 every turn at the start of the combat step and hits the first thing it or the template cross over.

I just want to see an adaption of the bomb rules in Veterans - drop bombs with a 5-forward.

In the game's abstraction, torps and missiles hit same turn, really no reason bombs shouldn't be able to coast 2 range bands in that time.

I hope an EPT or mod comes out that allows it.

Or tractoring a fighter into a Star Destroyer.

Or flaring into another ship.

I kind of want to see it as an Extra Munitions variant.

missile slot, 1pt, add 1 ordnance token to each equipped <bomb> upgrade, you may drop bombs from the front guides of your ship using the 5-<forward> template.

Actually, why the heck didn't they reference-card Extra Munitions to define token function off the card?

There's some neat effects that could use EM, like "when you perform an attack from a <torpedo> or <missile> secondary weapon, you may discard 1 ordance token to acquire a target lock on the defender"

At a store tournament yesterday, the Imperial player on the next table says out of the blue "I'm just waiting for the Missile Boat. That and the Gunboat. The X-Wing games were amazing".

It was a good day.

It's worth keeping an eye on their Twitter feed. Last year they did one promo for Black Friday, then another for Cyber Monday. IIRC the Monday offer was the better one of the two.

A gunboat a day keeps the Republic away.

Or tractoring a fighter into a Star Destroyer.

That's not how the tractor beam works...

You can totally do that in game. Either tractor somebody into a Raider or tractor them where the Raider is about to move. The later result is much more lulzworthy.

We're talking about TIE Fighter and the old Battlefront, not X-Wing.
