XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread
I remember the hate for the JSF. I could never get into the JTL metagame sadly, or even fly- because my internet had 5000 ping. It was heartbreaking because it was just as good as the X-Wing series, IMO.
For real? I got into SWG when the JTL expansion came out just searching for something remotely close to the X-Wing series. I quit 1 month jast after the Rise of Wookies expansion (or whatever name it was), totally disappointed with the whole space combat part. It was even worse than the Rogue Squadron games. Bland, repetitive and plain wrong.
I guess it's just a matter of tastes to like it or not. But it had objectively nothing to do with the X-Wing series. That is hard to rebate.
Never played Galaxies. I consider that to be the "wilderness years" - i.e. after X-Wing, but before X-Wing.
Looks like aLambadaLambda class chuttle with a40k cyclone missiel launcher strapped to the sides. But it looks nice!Better than some other models I've seen so far. I hope it's legit.
It would be nice if it were true but I wouldn't hold my breath. Besides I think the image from above is just this:

Man, this ship is SO BEAUTIFUL!

The only reason I don't order 3 of those 3d printed minis is because they don't come painted (sure I would pay more for that).
Edited by OdananThat's one helluva pretty looking ship, right there....
GONE ARE THE DAYS OF SALAD AND GLORY!
4756 posts with 238 pages, FFG and the 'Mouse' still won't let us have the Cygnus Spaceworks Alpha-class XG-1 Starwing Assault Gunboat. I feel as if the 'Mouse'just wants to phase this ship out of the Star Wars universe for good. We even got an odd/obscure ship from Star Wars Galaxies for Scum but not the Gunboat, perhaps because there isn't many works depicting it, or maybe the over paid producers in the 'Mouse House' just don't like the design (it's not far different from the Protectorate Fighter). Having the Empire using one manufactuerer and one style of fighter seems to be a bit one dimensional. I can see the remaims of the Emperor's First Order having a lack of design options, but the Empire? I'm certain the Empire (like any other government) would use multiple contractors to develop equipment. Naaa, the 'Mouse' says, "More EYE Fighters! We must have more EYE Fighters thats the only way you know it's the Empire! Lets retcon the force the fans enjoy more EYE Fighters. Lets make new stuff (got to keep the art department jobs going I guess) but more EYE Fighters. The Empire fighters must look like the differential off of a '57 Chevy."
Mind you, I love TIE Fighters but this ship should be brought back to the darkbside not left in the dark. Even if it was presented as an older ship much like the Y-Wing, it would depict the Empire had alternate designs manufactured along with the V-Wing before settling on the TIE platform.

Well at least it took 3 or 4 days to find it... my work here is done ![]()

I think this is the best idea for bringing it back into the canon. A step between the V-wing and TIE series. Maybe their last "heavy" starfighter, or the first fighter built for the Imperial Navy (V-wing's and such were for the "Republic Navy"). Cygnus got the contract before Sienar made the TIE series.

I prefer to think the Gunboats were produced to fill the gaps the TIEs couldn't. The didn't come before the TIEs - they came after the most basic TIEs.

Well, nice job, I guess... :/
With the ARC 170 being in the game now with just unique pilots, it is entirely possible to include this in the game under the pretence of an older model as some have stated previously. Just need to have four pilots or call signs, hell we already have an "Omega Leader". . . .
(Slightly off topic rant)
What we need . . . is the next Star Wars film to have a wide angled, sweeping shot of an Imperial Hanger bay and for this ship, just one, to be sitting there in the corner, being refuelled. That's it. Just enough screen time as the Quadjumper. . . .
It annoys me that the people that do these film and/or the CGI in them don't understand the impact they can have on this sci-fantasy universe. You don't have the scope of fanaticism with other franchises as you do with SW.
Just imagine if in the Force Awakens when Finn was escorting Poe that either:
Finn stops Poe mid stride and quickly changes direction to another TIE Fighter.
Finn: "Oh **** it. . "
Poe: "What, what is it. ."
Finn: "Nothing just keep walking. ."
Camera follows Finn's and Poe's gaze over to a TIE Interceptor that has just touched down. Landing personal are swarming the craft as the top hatch opens. A pilot steps out, his helmet clearly marked with the blood stripes. .
Even if he never took that helmet off, you would know it was Soontir. BAM. Fans go nuts.
Back on the planet, before they attack the Starkiller pass, instead of having Poe and Finn walk past each other, have Wedge Antilles walk past him instead, they share a nod. BAM. Fans go nuts. (Or even someone wearing Wedge's helmet as I heard the actor turned it down.)
Cantina, have an old man with brown shoulder pads, sitting in an alcove next to a thin droid, Han nods, old man smiles and nods back. BAM - Fans go nuts for Dash Randar
Little things that would mean so much to so many yet to me, seem like missed opportunities.

Yes, yes and yes. (although events in TFA happen 30 years in the future)
We need more real fans involved in these movies...

Oh, and I guess your little gunboat can be in there somewhere too.
You know.... we are almost at the point where this and other EU ships might start showing up again in X-Wing.
Think about what else from the new canon is likely? An X-Wing rebel veterans pack with the Rogue One x-wings, most likely... but also an Episode 7 Rebel Troop Transport ship, and the Mining Guild TIEs from Rebels.... Maybe that new Phantom shuttle also - but really we are almost out of new canon stuff for them to use to fill up waves.
Usually it's pretty obvious what the next wave will be, or at least most of the next wave. For right now, the only thing I'd be willing to bet on would be the mining guild tie for scum, and probably the troop transport for rebels. Really no idea for the Empire.

I know and agree, but this could be a way to get them back into the canon
Pac Man TIEs... can't wait.

I'm already pretty upset over the Rebel TIE... don't get me started.

At least the Rebel TIE fulfils a really different niche, being a dirty trick, crew carrier with just Unique pilots, rather than a cheap spamable ship. I hope to hell Scum do not getting Mining Guild TIEs (Don't get me started on Mining Guild not being scum, you can't be an official Guild that works under Imperial rule and pays taxes and be Scum) because the last thing we need is cheap spamable TIEs replacing all our cheap ships, which is what would happen, why would you take a Z-95 over a TIE.

Moding some guild TIE's for counts as Scyks (now that they are "fixed") acctually sounds like fun, now that you bring that up

Edited by DarthEnderXI'm already pretty upset over the Rebel TIE... don't get me started.
After the recent preview, i'm not too upset about Sabine's TIE, because it really is a different ship. The only thing is, it does not show up more than twice I think, and only Zeb flys it. So we get Ashoka, Rex and Sabine? I love these characters, but why put them in this one-off ship?

Because they are Rebels characters who aren't already in the game so they put them in that ship the same way that none of the ARC-170 pilots ever, to our knowledge, flew the ship.

OK, I definitely hadn't seen those two models before - I must be losing my touch!
Good to see more Gunboat becoming available though - that's three different options now on SW alone.
Absolutely beautiful models, both variants, and a very tempting purchase.
