It's mire of a compliment than an insult; Sabine's clearly a Stele impersonator

There you go

Hmm, what would an Armada Gunboat have? I'm thinking escort and grit. Always seemed like they were more than willing to beeline straight towards their target without giving 2 fluffs about you unless you started doing serious damage. They also always seemed to pop a missile at you while you were chasing a vital target like a troop transport or bomber. Even with torps I wouldn't call it a dedicated bomber like the Bomber and Defender are so maybe a blue die for anti-cap? What would be a good anti-fighter roll for it?

Bomber and Intel. Ha!

Stop putting Maarek in that turdwagon!

He flew it more than any other ship.

Maarek gets to fly everything.

He's the Imperial version of Sabine Wren.

Don't insult Steele by comparing her to him.

You are just a fountain of joy, huh?

I have about as much emotion as a Witcher.

Happy -let's hope FFG creates an Imperial Gunboat- Monday!!

FOOLED YOU!

It's annoying trying to find Gunboat pics when the majority of them are in this topic.

This appears true in more ways than one.

That just means our thread is the best thread.

I like the Witcher franchise. If I get to learning Polish I'd dig up the tv shows.

It's the only thread, I like to try and use some original content. Would help if I'd stop getting banned from EU groups though.

With... All due respect...

It isn't hard to see why.

Hey now, I never made any significant rank to warrant wadr. Be frank.

I am an *******, but that last one was because the admin was an annoying creep and they axed me because I blocked him. Somehow

The other one was because nobody appreciates a giant block crushing someone because they thought Sabine in a gunboat is cute. I willingly left that.

And for everybody missing it in the TIE-Avenger thread:

These are the real stats for all fighters in the original TIE Fighter game, that is the first time many these fighters appeared in the EU. The TIE Avenger is listed as TIE Advanced, that was how it was called in that game.

GUNBOAT!

You're making me want to play again. Then make a TIE Bomber for xwa to have shields.

Where is that piece of information from? Is there a link? It's beautiful to behold.

It's wrong though. Hardpoints for warheads exist on all small craft. - they are just not active by default.

The same goes for the special, it's triggered by AI scripts, in theory you can have a TIE Fighter reload full ammo onto a Cuv, or capture a corvette. It's based on the ships "orders".

Even in TIE Fighter. I wrote a campaign for it when I was... what? 16?

If any of you have the old compuserve forums archived anywhere, it's from the FScombat forum "Battle for Gamma Hydri". I also did a mini XvT campaign for Alpha Squadron (before BoP came out) "Rebel Moon Rising" as a small campaign for Rebels, and a Gray squadron campaign for BOP In 99/2000.

As a technical point, all the games - from X-wing to XWA all used the same order state system, it just leapt into different levels of complication with each incarnation. X-wing was REALLY simple, TIE added a load of stuff, XvT added a bit more, and XWA added more than I was comfortable with, what with the 4 separate sectors etc.

The big thing XvT changed was in X-wing and TIE the player ship remained stationary, and everything moved around it. XvT of course being multiplayer intended couldn't get away with that physics hack so actually had to have the player ships moving too.

The more you know...

I got it from here.

I think the biggest jump in the series was from X-Wing to TIE Fighter. The increase in complexity was spectacular.

From TIE Fighter to XvT, besides the multiplayer and textured graphics, and some ships (while removing others), the mission complexity remained more or less the same. Now you had teams for multiplayer. And a few more goals and conditions, but that's it. I actually think the gameplay became worse when everyone and their dog started using warheads, and countermeasures. It stopped being the WWII in space game it used to be. With the change of maneuverability at lower throttle levels, it diluted the line between the different fighters, since now everyone could turn in a dime by just dropping to 33% throttle for half a second. Not good additions.

In XWA they added even more gratuitous additions that didn't really improve the gameplay. Missions became a chore to retry with up to 4 sectors of redoing what you were doing before you failed the mission. Also, the engine was totally replaced and feels the least "X-Wing" of them all.

I'd agree that XWA is the weakling of the game, however it did do some things right. It fixed BIG ships.

XvT will always be my favourite, because i used it as a sandbox to make squadron based co-op missions. AND THAT IS EPIC!

TIE Fighter is the best single player space game ever, so. That.

X-wing... X-wing started it all, and had the under-utilized wingman system, that needs to be in more games.

I'd love nothing more than a game which could create an engram of my combat style from me playing it, and allow that engram to be used as a wingman by my friends.

Random memory: An AI based on me would do a certain maneuvre which seemed to confuse any AI chasing me. It'd pull sharply up, then 180 sharply down via an axial turn into a corkscrew.

Shook them every time.

Can we get back to discussing weather the Gunboat is a Mary Sue?

Whether.

Whether.

Dam you auto-correct wee meat again.

Edited by Rodent Mastermind

Can we not. Mary Sue is getting both overused and incorrectly used in too many places here...

But the Gunboat has no character development, They haven't even told us about it's childhood, whether it was bullied by all the Tie Defenders. It just goes out there with it's tonnes of missiles. I mean have they ever shown it training with those missiles? learning how to carry more than one? Was there a training montage where it learnt to twin link them. Did they ever show us the backstory on that pivot mount.... I THINK NOT...
