XG-1 "Star Wing" Assault Gunboat Thread

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

I didn't realize GR-75's has all those cargo containers underneath....

But seriously, I don't understand how you people manage to add 3 pages to this thread every time I see it.

I didn't say they were bad.

I said they were ugly. I like the Mon Cal stuff and Falcon just fine but they're ugly as sin. In a charming way.

I really, really really REALLY REALLY do not appreciate the insinuation that I think the ships in Star Wars don't look brilliant. I can say one or two are ugly without saying every single one is ugly.

What is with you guys? This world of absolutes must be very hard to live in.

Alright alright, calm down! I don't know why you're getting in such a huff. You seem very keen on your right to think awesome ships from the films are ugly, but not so keen on my right to think ships from the cartoons are ugly.

"MUH RIGHTS"

What? I... Man. I don't even know what this discourse is anymore. One is a complaint (ew everything in rebels is ugly and ruined) and the other is a statement (The falcon ain't pretty). That's my thing here.

What they need is their own personal ***** at Disney to officially design any ship or person they need to film standards on demand.

That would actually be cool, but probably too expensive. But I think they kind of did that for the Raider, right? They really wanted something comparable to the CR-90, and worked with LFL to produce the Raider. I think the Raider look completely at home in a Star Wars film.

They could certainly have had it in Rebels, but I suppose the Kittens class does the same role.

Eh, it's a different role to be honest. The Raider is a pretty Post-Yavin idea, in concept. Specifically built to fly with and take out other fighters with nothing but high-accuracy anti-fighter turrets? The Arquitens is very much a general patrol frigate, where the Raider is extremely specialized.

I'd love to see it in Rebels no less.

I think it would be entirely within the realm of possibility to see up-gunned Raiders replace the Arquitens. I mean, the Arquitens is a Clone Wars-era starship, it might be a good option for an Empire focusing on their Star Destroyer fleet, but I imagine simplification of logistics would result in the Empire gradually phasing out the Arquitens in favor of more heavily-armed general purpose models of the Raider (perhaps as a new class sharing much of the space frame and powerplant).

Of course, I kinda want an Imperial Defiant, so... that might be equal parts wishful thinking.

I doubt the Arquitens is ever to be replaced by the Raider. The Raider is a corvette but the Arquitens is a frigate, as the Raider typically does not posess any turbolasers and can match fighter speeds with its gargantuan engines, at least their acceleration anyway.

The Arquitens are a threat to any of the other frigate types they've got.

Yeah, the Arquiten's is the Empire's new Nebulon-B level ship.

Argh-kittens being Clone Wars era shouldn't bother the Empire that uses Gozantis that were an even older ship design. ISDs and VSDs were also rolled out at the very end of the CWs and still used a quarter century later. Just because something is a more recent design doesn't make it automatically better in all situations.

STILL think it's a cool idea that somewhere in the Outer Rim or Western Reaches there's an Imperial Acclimator with V-19s trying to keep the peace on the lawless frontier despite not having fancy TIEs. And then they get a shipment of fresh GUNBOATS...

Not giving us the starwing is FFG's crutch.

AETHERSPRITE!

Is that the not-A-Wing?

I want one.

Hmmm the pilot is clearly out of proportion with the ship (see the size of the droid).

And also, R4 looks like it's missing its arms, and the lower part of its body because there is no chance that an astromech body fits in that ship hull vertically.

Yeah, it's intergrated in those models isn't it? The lack of arms is actually good - it's suggests it was a genuine design decision rather than a retcon when they realised it actually wouldn't fit.

Yes, but the Gozanti is a space C-130. You don't need an über-modern C-130 to ferry troops and trucks around.

But when you're trying to pick a fight with an elusive rebel fleet, a ship with the speed to catch rebel capital ships and the firepower to make them rue the day they betrayed the Emperor is necessary.

(Admittedly, this is partially why the Empire needs Assault Gunboats. But there's no reason not to approach the problem from multiple angles.)

Just sent my order in for a gunboat. I'll post here again after I recieve it and paint it.

One of my tie bombers had an unfortunate accident, and that finally pushed me to get one to stand in. (wanted one anyway):)
