Master crafted flamer

By kobrain, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Flamers test opponent agility or get hit. Master crafted gives +10 bs and +2 dam. Would a master crafted Flamer induce a -10 penalty to agility?

That's how I would do it.

EDIT: Whoops- I forgot the bonus applies only to melee.

Master crafted only gives +10 to hit on melee weapons, flamers don't count as melee weapons so they only benefit from the +2 damage and immunity to jamming or overheating that all other ranged weapons get.

I'm pretty sure in deathwatch it's gives +10 ws and +2 damage. Even if not, my gm is ruling it that way as other PCs have argued it already

Edit: mistyped bs for ws. Sorry for confusion

Edit2: calgor, you are indeed right, it's only +10 for melee weapons. Will tell my gm

Hey, don't get me wrong, if book says one thing and you guys want to do another thing then feel free. This is why there is a house rules section. Some of the best rules are house rules! :D

flame weapons are so hard to upgrade.

no craftsmanship, special ammo or add-ons

:c

Thing is, do you really need to upgrade a flamer that much? Their spread and damage is more than sufficient to incinerate some 50 billion Tyranids/basic hoards and dont need special issue ammo.

Flamers are not there to take on big things so don't need high pen rounds or heavy damage dealer specialist ammo. They don't need to be more accurate since it's just a spray and hoards will find it hard to avoid a spray.

I always kind of felt that flamers are a bit underpowered. It sucks pretty hard trying to use a heavy flamer on Genestealers. That unnatural agility is a killer. Personally I always felt that a better way to do it would be to have it be opposed. BS vs AG. But I don't work at FFG...so I stick to RAW as much as I can
