I just want some variety in their defeats. Maybe FF will come up with a table. That would be great!
For game mechanics, tests should never change, but I don't see the harm in making up stories for the doom retreating encounters. That's what the "death" encounters really are IMO, ways to get items and retreat the Doom you gave up when your investigator fell.
I agree but it might be nice to have a small deck of random endings with various stat checks. I would like to see some cards, created by FF.
Maybe based on where they died, moved them to the nearest carded city and pick a card from the Alternate death cards. It would be nice to know that sometimes you could gain something cool or have some other bonus with different stories. Lets face it the game is about the story and dieing the same way all the time for each character does get boring. In fact we know what characters test what skills, without reading. So we have character with those skills encounter the defeated ones, so we have the best chance.
We have tried something like roll a D3+2 and that is how many turns you have to reach the character or the are gone by the time your get there.
Just looking for some variety here, to keep the story going and slight different every time.
