Strategy for Cursed Condition?

By Grimmshade, in General Discussion

Is there any way to actively attempt to get rid of a Cursed Condition?

Honestly, it's the only thing I dislike about the game, otherwise it's brilliant fun.

However, I've found that half the players end up Cursed half the time at least, and there is no way to actively attempt to lose it. The players in my group basically stop having fun when they gain the condition (because everything becomes so much more difficult.)

We are almost never getting a Blessed Condition, but it often seems half the things in the game Curse you.

Am I missing something?

I'm not an expert on the game yet. I've only played it a few times but I feel basically the same way. I lose all hope if it comes up for me.

However, I think there is another investigator that can get rid of cursed conditions as one of their actions, so if it's really bothering you you can make sure they are always one of your chosen investigators.

On the other hand, when the blessed condition comes up, I feel like I can tackle any challenge. :)

All part of the game. I think losing hope and feeling like there's no chance is a big part of the cthulhu mythos.

I've passed some challenges while cursed, and lost others while having a blessed condition. It's all random chaos.

These answers contain some spoilers about components, take that into account.

There are a couple of assets that help remove curses, which you can try going for, and if they don't happen to be in the reserve you can try acquiring assets the cycle through the assets deck until they show up (Holy Water, Witch Doctor and Sanctuary).

You can also use the Blessing of Isis spell, and if none of your investigators has it, someone can go to Buenos Aires to try and get it.

In the core game, every location has at least one encounter granting a blessing, with Rome having a little more, though I'm not sure if this ratio is kept with Forsaken Lore, so as a last resort you can try having encounters in major cities.

But in any case, as the good doctor above said, getting cursed is not the end of the world. Sure, things become harder, but hardly impossible, and investigators can overcome the difficulty.

Usually when I get the Cursed Condition, its because of that no good Wraith.

If one of your team kills the Wraith, it removes the Cursed condition.

Also, you can limit your occurrences of the Cursed Condition by the AO you choose. Yig by far spreads the most Curses in the game at the moment, so maybe avoid challenging him.

Best strategy: do not get cursed

:P

(ok, sorry, couldn't resist)

Hmmmm.... My last game was against Yig, so that may have played a big hand in half the table being Cursed most of the game.

Thanks for all the tips! Like I said, I love the game overall. I'm looking forward to more expansions!

Surprisingly, I have passed more tests while cursed than I ever have while blessed. I am pretty close to passing more tests cursed than in normal condition, in total. (Meaning the 200 tests I have taken cursed have more successes than the thousands I have taken either normal or blessed.) Go figure. I now try to get cursed, it seems to work for me!
