Question about players helping each other and ways to speed up the game and closest player

By Seether00, in General Discussion

So my group got done with our first game and we had a couple of questions.

1. We had a monster who had an ablity which would affect the closet player? How is that determined? And what if 2 or more players are equally close by?

2. How can investigators help each other if they are on the same space? Can they assist during a combat at all, like aid a roll?

3. The biggest complaint ( I think because we are Relic players) was that the game was too slow because each player had to wait while everyone went.

Has anyone considered having each player do both their Action and Encounter phase durin their turn OR Just have everyone go at the same time?

Then do the Mythos phase after everyone is done.

Also, if you are not on a major location, your action phase options seem limited.

1.) Determine the closest player by the number of paths. In case of equality, the first investigator decides, as always.

2.) They help the others through their abilities (Jim Culver adds a die in a combat test on his space, Leo Anderson adds a die to tests on his space while in wilderness, and so on), or through spells (Flesh Ward and Instil Bravery).

3.) Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider the game slow.

1. Count spaces. While technically the first investigator decides on ties, in practice it tends to be whichever player volunteers.

2. Note you don't have to be on the same space to use some assistant spells. Instill Bravery and Flesh Ward are very useful because of that. Also, since combat effects are cumulative, you can have one investigator soften up a monster and have the second investigator finish them off; for important fights I prefer to have multiple investigators so we can be sure to put the thing down.

3. The game lasts only two or three hours at most. That's really not that bad. You should encourage people to know what they are going to do in advance so no one is holding up the table.

Azetoth has clouded your judgement. You are stripped of your authority as lead investigator.
