You say it doesn't have many Hard Points, but when I look I see "8" which is a whole lot.
Thanks for pointing that out! I must have been looking at the prisoners when I typed that in. Thanks for pointing that out!

That's the end of my current list of freighters. If I get more requests, I'll post them. Otherwise, I'll see if I can't find something else fun in my scrounging!
Alright, I had some time to dig a bit, and I'm currently at a crossroads.
Do I:
1) Stop here and let the thread die quietly?
OR
2) Start digging through the splatbooks for ships from the d20 editions (including SAGA) to find more ships to stat?
I'd be up for suggestions of books to go digging through, and I'm still taking requests! Otherwise I might pick a book at random when I have the time, and we all know that NEVER goes well!

1 and 2.
I won't say let it die, but put it in your signature, its a good resource for everyone.
If you want to keep going, by all means, but if you have something else you want to work on than this can take a brake.

Thing is, I want to keep it going, but I don't know what else to throw out there without poring though book after book until I find something interesting.
I am putting a capital ship chapter on hold until I can get Age of Rebellion, as that will be a good collection of guidelines for vehicles in that category. The same is true for vehicles, but I'm not as familiar with that category.
I could start up a vehicle modification chapter, but I'm not as comfortable with that just yet, as we have a very small number of ship/vehicle mods so far to scale with.
So...yeah, any requests?
I have some requests; I love having a diverse set of freighters for players to choose from. I'm including some deck plans by Colonial Chrome; I like his use of scale and it might help to better see what a ship's actual stats might be. A lot of canon stats make no sense, especially with the Loronar Medium Transport.

Ah, more Mon Calamari ships!
Consider them on the docket to be done ASAP!
I can't take a race named after an appetizer seriously.......and their ships look like cucumbers with engines too......

That may be the case, but calamari is very tasty, and their ships are stable with awesome shields and good engines.
And they can go underwater. How much more do you need?!
A ship that doesn't look like a pickle..............it is better to look good than to be good.......

I really like the sound of this one.
Edited by FootNoteYou ask and I shall deliver:
Era: Rise of the Empire/Rebellion
Hull type: Transport
Ship Class: Loronar Medium Transport
Manufacturer: Loronar Corporation
Hyperdrive: Class 1 (Backup Class 15)
Navcomp: Equipped
Sensor Range: Medium
Ship's Complement: Pilot, Co-Pilot; Gunners (2)
Encumbrance Capacity: 1000 (17,000 tons)
Passenger Capacity: 10
Consumables: 3 months
Cost/Rarity: 27,000 credits/5 (Estimated around 120,000 credits when brand new)
Customization Hard Points: 4
Silhouette: 5
Speed: 2
Handling: -2
Defense: 1/1/1/1
Armor: 3
Hull Threshold: 43
System Threshold: 29
Weapons:
Ventral Mounted Laser Cannon (Fire Arc Ventral Turret; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close])
Special : This ship is easy to modify. . .except for the engines. Increase the difficulty of any engine-based modification by one.
Creator’s Note : Wookieepedia states this has four guns, but the images do not show where they can be, so I ruled them out (especially with the low cost).
I also guessed at the cost of a “brand new” vessel, as the price was very low and reminiscent of a used vehicle.
The Hull is high as it is said it is durable, and I left it at Armor 3 for that same reason. I can see an argument for Armor 2, though.
As always, Encumbrance was a challenge, so I did a bit of guesswork and placed it with the GR-75, as they are in the same ballpark. I would make this no lower than 900, but would need to change other vessels for that number.
Edit 7/14/2014: I raised the Hard Points to 4 instead of 3 to make up for the "missing guns." I was debating with bringing it up to 5, but it doesn't feel right to do so at this time.
The Mon Cal ships will come tomorrow!
Edited by LibrariaNPCAwesome! Looks like a fun alternative to Wayfarer for a party that wants to do some shipping. Can't wait for the Mon Cal freighters.
Awesome! Looks like a fun alternative to Wayfarer for a party that wants to do some shipping. Can't wait for the Mon Cal freighters.
That was the goal when I read it. It's cheap, it's not very fast (it even states that it is NOT ideal for anything involving sublight speeds), but it's durable. I assumed making it a bit beefy wasn't a bad idea, as it just screams to be shot at.
It reminds me of a smaller Action IV Bulk Cruiser. . .
Anyway, work has been chaotic, so I may or may not be able to stat up any more tonight.
My apologies for the delay. Now that I'm back, here are more ships!
Era: Rebellion/New Republic
Hull type: Light Freighter
Ship Class: A-Z-Z-3 Light Freighter
Manufacturer: Mon Calamari Shipyards
Hyperdrive: Class 2 (Backup Class 12)
Navcomp: Equipped
Sensor Range: Short
Ship's Complement: Pilot, Co-pilot; Gunners (2)
Encumbrance Capacity: 100 (60 tons)*
Passenger Capacity: 8
Consumables: 2 months
Cost/Rarity: 150,000 credits/7
Customization Hard Points: 2
Silhouette: 4
Speed: 3
Handling: -1
Defense: 1/2
Armor: 3
Hull Threshold: 27
System Threshold: 23
Weapons:
Dorsal and ventral mounted laser cannons (Fire Arc Turret; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close])
Special : The A-Z-Z-3, like most Mon Calamari ships, is equipped with backup systems, but the A-Z-Z-3 takes it beyond shields. Sensors and life support have backup systems, and if these components are taken out via a critical hit, the backups will kick in.
The A-Z-Z-3 can act as a submersible after configuring the shields. This configuration leaves the ship with 1/0 defense, and it can reach a maximum depth of 1,000 meters.
Creator’s Note : The cost here is pure guesswork based on the capabilities, the cost of other Mon Calamari ships (i.e. competitive), and armament.
The ship also only appears in one adventure as a heavily modified ship, so this adds even more guesswork to the vehicle. I’m hoping I’ve done it justice.
I’m not entirely comfortable with the cargo. The crew over at the Rancor Pit stated this has 110 tons of cargo room, which makes sense with how tall the ship is. If you agree, it would be 180 Encumbrance.
Simiyiar -class Light Freighter

Navcomp: Equipped
Sensor Range: Short
Ship's Complement: Pilot, Co-pilot
Encumbrance Capacity: 250 (150 tons)
Passenger Capacity: 5
Consumables: 2 months

Customization Hard Points: 2
Silhouette: 4
Speed: 3
Handling: 0
Defense: 1/2
Armor: 3
Hull Threshold: 26
System Threshold: 22
Weapons:
Dorsal mounted laser cannon (Fire Arc Turret; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close])
Ventral mounted ion cannon (Fire Arc Forward; Damage 5; Critical 4; Range [Close]; Ion)
Special : The Simiyiar -class freighter can act as a submersible after configuring the shields. This configuration leaves the ship with 1/0 defense, and it can reach a maximum depth of 1,000 meters.
Creator’s Note : The price was listed on one of the Rancor Pit books, and as it was the only price I could find, I went with it.
I think this would be a bit more expensive, ranging between 120,000-140,000 credits.
When I have the time I'll go looking through more books, but otherwise I'll still take requests!
Right now I'm still trying to find a freighter that leans more towards passenger service than cargo hauling. Most of everything available in is a restricted troop transport or Sil 5 and requires several crew members beyond the party members. You have anything for this? I looked at the GR-75, but even I think that's crap as it needs an escort to stand a chance against anything. I personally like the L4000, but my players refuse to 'fly a helmet.' Right now I'm allowing a hardpoint customization to expand lift support and cargo capacity to be shifted to passenger capacity in their antiquated (to put it mildy) Quartermaster they found. However I did give it 4 HP versus the 3 you had listed due to that and Wookiepedia said it was highly configurable for different cargo types. Right now the ship is keeping the players
highly
entertained as it is ~4000 years old, has a few
gremlins
demons, the Outlaw Tech barely comprehends the ancient systems and drive enough to keep them running, and parts are understandably hard to come by. Oh, and they have about 32 freed slaves/prisoners they busted out of prison/work camp. Soooo... Remember those scenes in The Empire Strikes Back with the Falcon during the escape from Hoth and before Cloud City? Like that, but slower and far more profanity. And they said (out of character) they were never going to miss the old YT-1000.
The Citadel (Core Rulebook) is a passenger carrier. It's a bit too expensive for a starter ship, but no so expensive (or rare) that PCs couldn't afford one after a time.
My own group is nabbed one with a few minor modifications (carries 15 passengers but only 80 Encumbrance of cargo) and are trying to decide if they want to go for it at auction.

The Quartermaster was one of those ships that I left it at 3 to make it not rival some other ships, but I can see the more HP. Let me know how that balances out!
One approach is to look at the notes I made on vessels like the L4000 regarding converting cargo over to people. It's not a perfect approach, but it is an option.
If I see anything beyond the Citadel that HappyDaze mentioned, I'll make sure to stat it up.
Just how many passengers are you looking for, exactly?
33 (32 freed Prisoners/Slaves + 1 abolitionist operative) and the 3 PC's. Frankly, the Quatermaster is pretty much a slightly slower Citadel that trades defense for encumbrance, but the newer ship wouldn't have the issues this thing has (which would kill the "fun".) They might upgrade to a Citadel (it'd make sense to use them as a prisoner transport and they'd be readily available in the sector), but it depends on what the party ends up doing. They did have the option of hijacking a L4000 for the same purpose, but like I said, they didn't want to fly a helmet.
So they got a Quartermaster that they extracted from an dilapidated and abandoned mining station instead. We left off with them hiding in some planetary mountains from the Imperials trying to figure out WTH the maintenance and nav computers are going on about. While what the display screens are showing
is
Basic, its a really old variant that none of them encountered. A lot gets lost in the translation apperantly.
Use
this video from 1:30 to 4:30 for an idea.
Right now, having 4 HP is a non-issue. 1 has been used for expanding life support, 2 are ear marked for a weapon system of some sort, and the last for an engine upgrade once they get the engines to work properly. I honestly don't see how this bird could be cause a balance issue given it is toothless and also has speed issues from the get go. If anything comes up, I'll give you a run down.
