About defeating monsters

By GreenFlame, in General Discussion

Hi! I have a question that I would love to see answered

When a monster dies due to the effect of a card like dynamite, or that other 4 influence card that kills every monster in a location, or shriveling, are those monsters considered to be killed by you?

And if so, could you get an artifact from a mi-go killed this way, or pay clues to add the monster to a mystery card, like some of them state?

Thanks!

If a monster dies due to Health loss, then it is considered defeated, yes. You usually have three outcomes.

1. You roll enough successes during the combat encounter to defeat the monster. The monster is defeated during a combat encounter .

2. You do enough damage during the action phase or a non-combat encounter to exceed that monster's health. That monster is defeated, but not during a combat encounter . These monsters typically do not count for purposes like mysteries or rumors.

3. A component instructs you to discard a monster. That monster is removed from the board and is discarded . Epic monsters cannot be discarded normally.

The way I read the mystery and rumor in question (a Shub mystery), is that monster defeated out of combat do count for their purposes.

However, if you defeat a monster out of combat, you don't get effects that specifically mention defeating monsters in combat (Lodge Researcher, Mi-Go, Skeletons etc.)

Thank you for your answers, really appreciate them :)

Yeah, if the component says "defeated during a combat encounter" then you receive no benefit. Otherwise it's the same as a normal defeat.

Another question kinda related to this:

Let's say you are playing against Shub, and you set her monsters aside. One cultist summons a dark young through retribution.

If that dark young is killed, where will it go? Back to the AO sheet, so it can be resummoned or it goes into the bag?

Set aside monsters bact to set aside position after they defeated. in this case back to Shubby sheet.
