  1. Magnus Grendel
Makes me think of the GW Kharn novel. "You killed him. Remember?’ Ruokh’s eye twitched. ‘That was a fair fight,’ he growled. ‘It was to first blood,’ said Dreagher. ‘I only hit him once,’ said Ruokh. ‘You decapitated him.’ ‘There was a lot of first blood,’ admitted Ruokh."

What systems are you familiar with? As Oden mentions, this is a very different system with a few idiosyncrasies.

For a time, my group said if you rolled successes enough to cancel all the failures that you hit, doing the base damage of the weapon with every extra success was added to the base. So 1 success and 1 failure was like a grazing hit for base damage. This was mostly because there were SO many misses in the early days of our characters and fights took forever for us. We eventually grew out

Technically, there are no 2-person skirmish, of course, every group can rule otherwise. but Emphasis on the last phrase. Not all conflict duels are formal duels.

Agreed. The other thing to consider is if Skaven are revealed too early in campaigns, they are kind of like an enormous spoiler. jh

I highly doubt a street thug would require the approval of their daimyo to initiate the formal resolution of grievances through ritualized martial conflict. Sure, there could be an unsanctioned duel between samurai who are bitter rivals, but the formal procession still exists to maintain a semblance of honor. Range bands aren't required in a duel with melee weapons because leaving is tantamount to forfeiture and we can safely assume opponents are tethered together

I mean, I'm sure you can do it that way too - it's just more effort than it's worth. If you keep it mostly as theater of the mind, with a simple map - it has worked just fine for us.

Not sure if this been already said but the main houserule that I totally dig is that any social action that says "you influence the target" also deals one shame to the target.

gameogre43 replied to gameogre43 's topic in WFRP Gamemasters
Thanks again! While I don't have the book any longer I will still keep a eye on the game and see what happends. If the dice become avialable at the same time I happen to have some extra cash I can see buying it all again. Two of my players were really bummed out about the whole deal as they really loved Warhammer 2nd edition. So my guess is this isn't goodbye as

Well three of my characters have expressed a desire to begin on a Hive World. Do you suppose Scintilla or Malfi would make a better place to start a campaign off? All the intrigue instrinic to Malfian culture seems like fun.
  17. Tenebrae
I have used range bands. They work better in L5R than in some games (assuming you don't think about them too much). I think they work better in ArM5 tan in L5R5. But in either case, IME, the less attention you pay to range bands, the better they work.

    Cross Book Play (New GM)

Richardbuxton replied to Bokmog 's topic in Game Masters
I'm repeating this to emphasise how much it will help your decision and make the party more cohesive. CHOOSE A THEME FOR THE CAMPAIGN OR PARTY.FaD characters are very broad I capability so will fit any game very easily. So choose a theme, Archiologist explorers, struggling colonists, a traveling stage show (that are mercenaries on the side), a rebellion A Team, etc ETCThen choose a central mechanic Morality, Duty or Obligation, base the party
  19. Harzerkatze
Yes, that is a powerful one, as it automatically does its effects on subsequent rounds.

So I didn't like EfaE so decided to write a similar story with a fair few alternatives, less NPC's the manage, different chaos god and so forth. My current group composition is:Dwarf gambler, High Elf thief, Human Mercenary, Human Initiate of Sigmar, with an Apprentice Wizard if the Grey Order joining next session. Overall the group has a nice balance, with a theme of being sneaky, shadow wizard, a theif and a

New GM. What's broken or OP?

The Grand Falloon replied to lologrelol 's topic in Legend of the Five Rings: The Roleplaying Game
For Coiling Serpent, I would say that each * spent increases the TN on actions using the weapon, rather than saying it can't be used. That way there's still a chance to hit, and the target still has opportunity options. Pelting Hail, on the other hand, is just ridiculous, especially if you use the whole thing about Wargear causing extra Strife. That means a Daikyu would just dump 7 Strife per shot, ignoring TN
  24. Avatar111
Nothing is broken when everything is. Everybody plays this game differently, and I mean it. Just enjoy the game, do cool stories.
