Force question

By Kager, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Another thing that sometimes confuses people with force powers is the statement on page 278.(last section just above the sidebar of darkside force users.)

" A force power is always "successfully" activated, even if the check does not generate any force points to spend on the power.

Also, when looking at the basic force powers, they state "The character may spend..." or "The user may spend...",

indicates that it's optional to spend force points on the basic force power.

The upgrades state "spend" a force point... which indicates that a point must be spent to activate.

Just wanted to point these out.

I was given insight to this from FFG.

When using move, you DO NOT need to spend multiple force points to move a higher silhouette.

Example: If you have two strength upgrades so you can move a silhouette of 2,it would only cost 2 force points. 1 to activate the power and 1 to activate the second upgrade to move silhouette two.

Now,if you only had one strength upgrade it would cost 3 force points to move silhouette two. 1 to activate the power, 2 to activate the strength upgrade twice.

You can only use dark side points by flipping one light side destiny token and suffering strain equal to how many dark side points are to be used. But if there are no light side destiny tokens to flip, you cannot use dark side points.

Based one someone's calculations, its easier to upcall dark side 58% I think for 1 DS Pip, but the second easier option is 25% 2 LS Pips. Maybe that the reason why the conversion (until now) its just "one way".

I think people need to start preparing now for the overall geek reaction of F&D Beta when it is finally released for I expect much tirade, confusion, and bliss from it that some people may suffer from aneurysms or heads just literally exploding off. I believe this covers the health warning on discussing force powers in forums.

I'll probably wind up avoiding the F&D Beta forums entirely, and just submit any feedback/concerns I have about the Beta to FFG directly.
