Creative artwork cards

By Mndela, in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

I feel the urge to create another bunch of cards... It's overcoming me...

I know how you feel. I'm at work, so I really need to resist. :P

Reckless Vengeance: the idea is according with the title of the card. Maybe a little overpowered.

Inspired by Sacrifice: i love the art of the image. And the idea is very good ^^

My video card totally got crashed, so LotR LCG is safe from mutilation by my hand... for now ;)

What do you think of these enviroment events? Do you think they're balanced? Do you think there's a better cost than exhausting a character of a specific trait? I kinda want these to be splashable, and considering how many allies we have with Scout and Ranger, it was a way of taking advantage of allies' traits.

I like the overall concept of these. Another thing you might consider is instead of exhausting an ally of specific trait you can put a requirement to play a card in form of controlling at least 1 hero with specific trait.

That was my first idea, but then I thought that just having a ranger hero to reduce the threat of each card in the staging area for 0 cost was too powerful. Same with the other three. That's why i chose the exhausting cost, and it is made a little more flexible by the fact that you can also exhaust allies as well as heroes.

I like the last cards built by Gizivaldi. It seems correct, not so overpowered neither weak. Good ideas...

'Edge of' gives you a real nice use of Snowbourn Scout. :)

I think the exhausting of a character with a specific trait is quite nice for these. They may still need to add a cost of 1 to them to make them more balanced, but I don't know. I also feel like the Leadership event shouldn't focus on Willpower... but then again the Leadership sphere has Sword that was Broken, Faramir, and Visionary Leadership, so why not?

I think that the Lore card in particular needs a cost of 1 or 2 to help balance it. It's OK in single player, but is a bit much in multi-player for 0 cost. It could potentially reduce the threat in the staging area by 4-8, which is more than most similarly costed cards can!

The Leadership one is dying for a dwarf horde! :)

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking of adding a cost of 1 to each of them since Cover of Night can be bonkers in a three or four player game. I would like to find a way to balance them but since I only play solo I don't really care, lol. I already had my Palantiri and rings printed in a local printing enterprise and they look great! I'm going to print these as well and see how they work. They basically came from the idea that I'd like to see more events related to enviroment and "weather", like those we used to have back in Middle Earth the Wizards.

Don't add the cost, the cost is already here - exhaustion of a character of particular trait. Just rebalance the card itself by making it scale with the number of player accordingly.

Do you have any ideas on how to do this? I honestly can't find a way since it's very hard to balance "each card in the staging area" according to the number of players.

To lower the power curve you can substract 1 threat from staging area for each ranger you control. Or you can make a player choose the type of a card getting -1 threat (enemy or location).

Choosing enemy or location to get lower threat is a great way to balance the card if there are 2 or more players. But I think this is the first card we see that has this type of effect, and it sounds hard just to word it.

Action: Exhaust a Ranger character you control to name a card type. Until the end of the phase, each card in the sating area that matches named type gets -1 threat.

Good card for some start quests in multiplayer like... Into Ithilien, Tharbag, etc.

Tharbag

A couple of random thoughts I had floating around:

And an alternative art version of one and only Unexpected Courage

I love the alt art. There is a lot of great Eowyn vs Nazgul art out there and this may be some of the best.

I also really like the bard.

I'm not sure how I feel about Weary Horseman, though. Seems like the idea is to have a relatively cheap ally with above average stats. Nothing wrong with that, but cheap allies are generally what you want to see early game, and his ability really only make him viable later in the game when you have enough characters to guarantee you can quest well enough and still have some characters ready. It has great theme and a unique ability for sure, but I'm not sure if I'd play him.

His low cost implies multisphere combination with good questing stuff. And you can always keep some 1/0/0/1 wimp ready for the case. That what I had in mind while designing him. There we plenty of versions of him - he was getting discarded at 31 or higher threat, he was exhausting from failed quest and else, else, else.

Here is another funny concept:

Very good idea Traveling Bard

**UPDATED -- Added the discard requirement to use the response ability.

Just because . . . . :D

Actually, it's always seemed weird to me that you can cancel treachery, and cancel shadow effects, but there's NOTHING to cancel a surge. About the only thing that's even remotely close that I'm aware of is Gildor's Counsel.

Um. How bout's Minas Tirith Lampwright?

Or Minas Tirith Lampright?

Edit: Trololo beat me to it

Also I do really like this hero design, another cool idea would be an ally you can discard to cancel surge (a useful ally though unlike lampright). Also lampright has a very decent chance of not cancelling the card at all if you guess wrong.... Should be a somewhat expensive ally with decent stats but not quite as good as they should be for its cost and it should be able to discard to cancel a single surge. That would be awesome!
