Tantive IV info

By newmagrathea, in X-Wing

It certainly makes sense that the capital ships wouldn't take stress.

The transport comes with 2 stress tokens...

But it's possible and I think fitting that the CR-90 couldn't be stressed at least not the same way a fighter is.

The reason for that though is it comes with an X-wing and has an action (that the tantitive lacks) that adds stress to a target.

Good point, I didn't think about the X-Wing.

I guess stress tokens are pretty cheep. But is there really a reason to include it, to give to another ship? Each ship comes with it's own stress token, so you shouldn't need to have an extra to hand out.

I guess mostly I'm thinking about how many stress tokens I have already, and wouldn't mind not having to punch out even more to put in my box of "I have way too many of these now"

They need to sell a complete product though, so it doesn't matter how many we already have, just that they sell a complete item.

You can give a stress token to a ship already stressed. So yes, it is "needed."

I could see Leia being either some sort of stress sponge or passing out focus to friendly ships.

As far as stress tokens on capital ships are concerned I don't think that they will be used because the ships are not capable of sharp turns or K-turns. Also I think that there might be an energy cost associated to movement which would negate the need for stress because the energy would be used for movement instead of actions. Not to mention that on a large ship there would be several people operating the ships so individual rolls would not have as much responsibility and that would dissipate the stress to some degree.

Well as was pointed out, if the token doesn't come with the ship, it can't use it. There are no focus tokens I can see with the CR-90.

Honestly... I think as a ship captain I'd gain a stress or twelve from having Leia around:

Alderaan bites the dust, Tantive IV is captured, DS1 prison block has a "reactor leak, um very bad," Yavin IV nearly becomes Alderaan II, Hoth is discovered about 15 minutes after they finish putting the sensors up, her hiding place from a Super Star Destroyer ends up being a giant space slug, Cloud City falls under Imperial occupation, a perfectly good yachting excursion over the Dune Sea blows up, elite Rebel commandos get blindsided by teddy bears, DSII ends up having shields, and God knows what else happens wherever she sets foot in the EU.

Let's face it, wherever she goes, &$#% happens.

Leia Organa:

This ship gains an automatic focus and stress every turn. Two stress if C3P0 and Han are also aboard.

I also don't see the need for more Ion rules cards, but nope, getting a whole lot more thanks to the Z-95 and TIE Defender (grumbles about absurd cardboard usage).

Edit * I'm putting the maneuver cards in my card portfolio right next to the ship cards of that same type. That way, when someone is browsing the cards to make a squad, the dial for the ships isn't a mystery. And if someone wants a reference during the game, it can easily be pulled. *

They have to sell a complete product, just cause you have the card, doesn't mean someone whonjust got in the game does, and they need the card so they know what the rules are... I also have about a dozen of them, but I'll find a use for them.

Well its in case that one player who hasn't somehow gotten an ship with the card picks it up they know what the effects of being shot at by Ion cannons/turrets does. Plus at some point you can just wallpaper your room with rule cards.

Does the range ruler consist of two parts? Something that long does not seem to fit into the box.

Looks to me like there's an overlap, so I expect it comes in two pieces.

I'm kind of disappointed that there only appears to be a single fore and aft section card. If this came with 4 of each (similar to other models), there would be an incredible number of (or 16) possible fittings for this ship. You could mix and match 2 named and 2 generic pilot front ends with 2 named chief engineer and 2 generic rear ends.

Also it seems like a bit of a waste that Empire can't field this ship. After all, in my recollection, I shot down a pile of these things under the control of the Empire while playing X Wing many years ago.

Imagine Darth Vader as a passenger on something like this with the ability to regenerate shields every turn. I think I'll have to try it out just for kicks even if the rules don't allow it.

I wouldn't mind seeing some ships being able to switch sides. A Tyderium title to put the shuttle on the rebel side for instance? (maybe restricting the use of the dial to green and white manoeuvres only to oh I dunno, fly casual) Add some rebel pilots for that beast and presto.

I can't wait to try the Tantive IV and the Transport out. I sure hope we do get them Q2.

I think that having a variety of named ship cards would suit the situation better. I don't think mixing and matching makes sense, I'll take the fore of this ship and the aft of that ship, it's all one ship or another ship. But that being said combo potential for that model is very interesting and would add a new element to the game when more large ships are released.

I don't think anyone calculated its length yet from the pictures, so here goes.

The length and width I got from the top-down view with the range ruler, assuming that the range 4 ruler shown is 160 cm. The height I got from the moving .gif, looking at its side profile, and using the length just calculated.

max length: 29.5 cm (11.6 inches)

max width: 9.2 cm (3.6 inches)

max height: 6.8cm (2.7 inches)

The height is from the bottom of engines to top of sensor dish, sitting flat with nose in the air. It'll angle down when you sit it down, so the dish will drop slightly.

Looks like we'll need 3 inches of foam vertically for it. The length is short enough that it should fit just fine lengthwise in the 15.5 x 12 Battlefoam. It might be possible to fit it the short way, but you would have less than a quarter inch of foam left between the front/rear of the ship, and the case. Probably not a good idea.

I'm probably just going to keep in the box. Maybe if it gets a lot of use then I'll spring for some better storage.

I expect I'll be the same and just keep my big ships in the clamshells in a shoebox or similar as I doubt I'll be dragging these along to every other game night and only get them out for games organised ahead of schedule.
