Vader Crew Card

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

So,

I have come to the conclusion that I am very disappointed in the Vader crew card. I know it is useful for what it does, but it really isn't very thematic.

Vader is the Dark Lord of the Sith and isn't a suicidal loonie. Amoral dark Lord, yes.

I really think that Vader should have been able to ride in his Shuttle and maybe do something like the Sith Battle Meld

All Imperial ships within range one of the ship carrying Vader may increase their pilot skill by 2 points to a maximum of 9.

That would be a cool Vader attribute.

What do you guys all think?

His pilot card ability, judging by the art, was based on his duel with Luke in Bespin. You know, when he went all "I don't care if it's structural, I'm hitting you with it!"?

Vader doesn't share, or make people better. He kills his own crew to motivate them. I think the Vader card is thematic.

Viewed in that light, suffering damage makes more sense than stress tokens, which is what comes to mind from Force chokes. And you never see Vader (or even Anakin, back in his Jedi days) doing anything remotely meditative or coordinated in combat.

A stress token would have not been enough for a free crit. While I do think 1 damage and 1 stress for the crit would have been good, it really only gets played on the shuttle which is why I'm guessing it doesn't generate stress.

and does it NEED to be thematic? I know some want to play AS the pilots and all. And there is the ongoing debate on EU vs movies. But as some others pointed out, Vaders in it for Vader. He force chokes alot of people in the movies. I haven't read a word of the books/comics sorry graphic novels, so he very well could have then too, I don't know. Plus you have to think of the other cards already out. your main idea of the card is pretty much already out there with squad leader(?) giving someone a bump in rank.

The Squad Leader comment I agree with I guess. I wasn't saying that the text I proposed is what it should be, it was an example that sprang to mind.

Vader committing suicide just doesn't seem right. That is my main point.

It is super thematic. Maybe the most thematic power in the whole list. Is Luke particularly hard to hit, not really, Is Chewwie hard to crit against?

Does Vader kill his own people to accomplish his goals: YES!!!!!

Outside of his TIE Advanced every one Vader ever kills in the movies is an Imperial.

As for if the upgrade is a good one. It is great. No it's not a good idea to just throw on any ship. But I don't really like upgrades like that. I like my upgrades to be useful in certain circumstance.

If you put Vader on Basic shuttle you that only costs 24 points. 2.4 points per damage. I you can do a point of auto damage to a ship. Imagine doing an auto crit to a E-wing, The cheapest one cost 27 points. And they only have 6 hits.

What the Vader shuttle is really good against is that Soontir+PtL+Stealth Device that goes the whole game without getting hit.

Put a gunner on your shuttle and he can kill Soontir in a turn and a half of shooting, assuming he misses with all his shots.

Upgrades, IMO, should be about providing options that might be useful in some circumstances, not just making things hands down better all the time.

Tusken Raiders. Dooku. Separatists. Younglings. Padmé. That Rebel he choked *not force choked, just with his hand* in the first 10 minutes of ANH.

It is a little known fact that that rebel was an Imperial spy. As for those other killings I have no recollection of the movies. Perhaps we would had those scenes if we had ever gotten those prequel movies that Lukas Promised us but since Episodes I-III never happened we will have to be satisfied with the Star Wars that we do have.

(okay so he did kill one rebel, but he killed the Emperor doesn't that like undo killing at least one rebel)

Maybe I should say that the only people Vader Ever killed while as a crew member of a ship (see it fits with the game) were Imperial. I would have to point out that once you board another ships you are no longer crewing the original ship.

If you think about it, picking up the Emperor and throwing him down the shaft IS what killed Vader. So going all in even when it will kill him is 100% thematic.

Haha. Murder is bad whether you do it to good or bad people.

Funny thing... the only person who ever even suggested to not kill a Sith but to put them in trial through the Justice System in the movies was Anakin. He of course was doing this for extremely selfish and emotional reasons. Every Jedi ever *including Anakin other than that one part* prefers to just strike down Sith in anger. "Knowledge and Defense." pffft.

I was pretty sure it was the Force Lightning that did Vader in, not picking up a feeble old man.

I think it's pretty clear, it didn't matter what side you were on - Vader was still a threat to your health.
