Imperial Strategy question and a loving statement :D

By SpectreSix, in X-Wing

There was an Imperial pilot for the Empire faction that could make their fighter move on the first turn and make itself move back to the starting position on the first turn in one maneuver just so you could see what your opponent was doing and plan accordingly... who was that?? I used to face it, but I can't remember the pilot or the fighter.

For those of you that don't not use Y-wings and Lambdas in their lists: I love you. Keep up the good work and please, oh please don't phase them out when you get ahold of Wave 4.

Yeah the E-wing will be better than the Y-wing but... Think about the baby Y-wings they have to go home and feed. And the smoking hot Y-wing wife they have to go home to.

Start with a TIE Fighter or TIE Interceptor pointing straight ahead. Pilot and upgrades don't matter. Perform a 1-speed turn in either direction, then use the Barrel Roll action towards your own board edge. Next turn, perform a 1-speed turn towards the center of the table, then Barrel Roll again. You'll be basically where you started.

EDIT: You could also have a TIE Fighter, Interceptor, A-Wing, or B-Wing start out parallel to your own board edge facing one direction, perform a (3-)/(3-)/(3- or 5-)/(2-) speed Koiogran-turn, respectively, then perform a green straight maneuver of the same speed on the following turn. This would place you in the exact same position, but facing the opposite direction. For obvious reasons, I don't recommend doing this directly away from (then back towards) the board edge.

Y-Wings will never be truly obsolete. I'm not sure why you're so worried about the E-Wing when the B-Wing already tried to replace them and couldn't succeed. The E-Wing's much more likely to replace X-, A-, or B-Wings in most peoples' lists than Y-Wings.

See... given how expensive it is to deploy even a basic E-Wing (27 points) it's going to be a tough call to say that they'll be completely able to fully take the place of any craft in this game. Y-Wings will still be cheaper, even with their turrets, and they have two of the best unique pilots (in my opinion) in the game. A-Wings are cheaper, and although the boost action is not as good as barrel roll and they aren't quite as scrappy or versatile, I can still deck one out pretty well for 27 points as opposed to a naked craft of equal cost.

Somehow I won't be surprised to see a lot of lists in the future with 3 E-Wings, but I think I'll most likely see them as a powerful but carefully weighted heavy strike craft that's designed to irritate the enemy side as much as possible since it's high performance is at the cost of just how much you make it work for you.

*deleted for being too silly*

All baby Y-wings grow up secure in the knowledge that they will see combat.
