Twilight Imperium Tournament @ GenCon 2014

By soreth, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Does FFG have any plans to run another Twilight Imperium tournament as they did last year at GenCon in 2008 & 2013? If so, would there be any plans to publish the expansions/rules used prior to the tournament?

Last year's tourney was great fun and I ended up 2nd overall winning my set of "glow-in-the-dark" pieces to go with the gold pieces I won in 2008 when I came 2nd then. I'm still after my "silver" set of ships which are subtly different to the flat grey pieces found in the first expansion.

Lastly, FFG took pictures and our names of the 4 finalists but sadly I never saw anything published on any social media/website.

Thanks!

I think I was the one that won in 2008 and picked the glow-in-the-dark minis. See here:

That was, unfortunately, before the Shards expansion so I don't have a glow-in-the-dark flagship or mechanized ground forces so I can't use my trophy minis to play TI3 anymore. I asked FFG and it does not appear that they ever made Shards mechanized ground units or flagships in gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark. My solution to the problem of missing Shards units is to buy another copy of Shards and paint a set of the minis with glow-in-the-dark paint. If you are interested in getting a set of Shards pieces (optionally painted gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark) to complete your trophy mini set please post here:

Is there any way to get those pieces other than placing well in a big tournament like that? I don't go in much fir tournaments, especially at cons where time is precious, but I would love to have special sets of playing pieces for TI.

Other than buying another copy of the game and painting the minis yourself, I don't think so. I think FFG was pretty conservative and only gave out those glow-in-the-dark, gold, and silver sprues of minis to people who placed in an official FFG tournament. So, if you see someone with a set of those gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark minis, you know you are playing with a ringer.
