Prolong a Bwing's life?

By cubby09, in X-Wing

So I have been experimenting with the scarlet cowgirl build and variants there of recently during casual games. Each saturday my LGS hosts a tournament and I run builds that I am more familiar with (not yet used to the fatass of the albino cow's dial yet).

So this weekend I will be running a four ship rebel build. I ahve (as many others) been incorporating at least one Bwing in my builds. The problem has been they get targeted early and often and I usually only get a couple of solids rounds out of them. with the goal of prolonging the life of a Bwing in mind I am thinking of including Biggs in my build (generally not a fan of using named rebel pilots but...). which do you like better (keep in mind I am reluctant to upgrade a ship designed to die)?

I kinda like the second one. But drop the R5 and add FCS to the B. I'm not 100% sold on AdvS on the Blues since they more often than not can get their action anyways, but it does open up maneuverability. One of the best uses imo is hiding directly behind an asteroid and then BR before you move to avoid hitting it. This makes them more survivable. It also makes them more maneuverable because they can do the 1 turn with no negative impact. *shrug. Maybe the first list is better, I just don't really see much point to Biggs in it, whereas the second list with the HLC has a true #1 target in the HLC B wing, and Biggs will protect him.

In the first list, if Biggs was downgraded to a Red, you'd get 2 points back for the cost of 1 PS. If they target the X wing or the B wing first doesn't make that much difference really. Depending on the squad you're facing, either one could be a better end game unit. If you provide a R2 shot on a Red/rookie X wing over R3 shots on the Blues, the opponent will likely shoot the X wing anyways. So Biggs ain't doing jack besides costing you points to die. I suppose you could say that the Bs could be at R2 while he's hanging back at R3, and that's a decent reason for him I guess. *shrug.
