Question about Jan Ors' ability

By Siddhi, in X-Wing

Hi there,

I've only been lurking so far and haven't been able to find out if my question might already have been answered (the forum search won't let me search Jan Ors since it's only 3-character words).

Jan's pilot card says: "When another friendly ship at Range 1-3 is attacking, if you have no stress tokens, you may receive 1 stress token to allow that ship to roll 1 additional attack die."

I wondered what "is attacking" means? Does this mean "performs an attack", which would imply that it only counts for a single attack, or does it just generally mean attacking and could therefore apply to both attacks performed by a ship that has a gunner or Luke crew card?

Siddhi

It only works on one attack. Regardless of whether the second attack came from: Gunner, Luke, Cluster Missiles.

Ok, thanks Khyros! That's what I figured but since the card texts are usually quite precise I wondered why it doesn't say "performs an attack" rather than "is attacking" and thought I might have missed something there.

Well - It technically applies to both attacks with a gunner, any attack will do. The trick is when to use it - because Jan is limited by Stress. since it only works when she has no stress, and she get's a stress to activate her ability, it's only useful once per turn. If we ever see a way to remove stress mid combat, then we'd be able to use Jan's ability more than once in a turn, on different separate attacks.

In a blended fleet, Captain Yorr would be up for the job. Can also carry a Gunner, for that matter.

Not sure about both attacks, as the first attack will result in a stress token to activate the extra die, and then you can't use it again if you've got a stress token.

He speciffically noted that some way of preventing or losing the stress between attacks would be required.
