Navigator and a sorcerer

By at0milich, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Its clearly said that a navigator cant be psychic as well, but how about being a sorcerer.

If i've understood rules for sorcereus power in "edge of the abyss", there is nothing that stop an insane navigator becoming a sorcerer. Just planning a villain of current campaign, a navigator who has pledged himself for Tzeentch.

A similar idea sprang to my mind when I read the sorcerer rules but a bit different, the cool way I think to do a Navigator Sorcerer is not so much to come up with yet another chaos worshiping jackass but rather a guy who indulges in sorcery knowing he's part of the one group of people who can actually do it without ultimately falling to Chaos. Racking up corruption doesn't cause a Navigator malignancies, at each corruption level someone else would gain a malignancy he gains a Navigator mutation instead. Which means the biggest problem with doing sorcery doesn't apply to Navigators, plus if he accidentally summons a demon he can just kill it with lidless stare.

Also your typical shlubs in the universe don't know what Navigator powers are just that Navigators have crazy powers so you can pass off your blasphemous powers as normal Navigator stuff to people who don't know any better which is most of them.

Thanks for the pointers! I hadn't thought it that far myself, I thank this guy will became a villain to remember :)

I really hope this means your Navigator is actually a Necron.

I believe the Sanyan clan is a group of sorcerous Navigators that operate the Monarch of Whispers in the Expanse, but I am not 100% sure

The clan is a group of sorcerers, but the Monarch of Whispers is indeed captained by a Navigator of House Nostromo who has thrown her lot in with Chaos, presumably because they could hide her from Erasmus Haarlock.

Well I probably oversimplified a bit, obviously Navigators still have to be careful regarding the warp and it can still affect them but it would be more manageable and less pronounced. In the long run accumulated corruption would still likely influence the character's personality negatively pushing them toward even more depravity and if you accumulated a hundred you'd still basically turn into a chaos champion and flip out.

However as a Navigator you're still in the best possible position if all you're going to do is dabble in sorcery for specific limited ends and you're in a better position to clean up your own messes. Your biggest risk is probably being possessed, the rest is fairly manageable.

Also correction to my earlier post, you don't kill deamons with lidless stare you kill them with held in my gaze or whatever it's called. Very similar ability but a different one nonetheless.
