It was a long session. Planning isn't the strong point for my players but it went very well.
One of their Rebel contacts asked them to locate Cortosis. They immediately thought about using the ggg galactic internet, but information dries up quickly. They make some enquiries into the black market, and quickly realize that the empire has locked down all information on Cortosis mining, locations, etc. To get that kind of info (even recent surveys) they'd need to break into the Imperial Library and extract the data.
They go to Coresant, and are aghast at the security. I modelled the security after modern Bagdad, the Emperor stay hiding in the Green Zone, which is super duper tight. A 1km wall surrounding the green zone and the old Senate prevents ground incursion. Underground is solid, but Black Sun could help, for your soul. Anti air towers surround the area.
The players took the Star Tours tour of the Green Zone with an announcer laying it on thick about the silly Jedi and how humans are really better than all aliens. The players observed all the security, including full body scans. No Droids entering or leaving in Imperial facilities, no aliens, etc.
It's Fort Knox, and the humans are dumb as soup (no sneaking in and Slicing for ropy and dopy).
Then they see that the Jedi Temple is heavily guarded, but otherwise unoccupied. They also notice that on the upper levels, there are some Jedi Fighters just sitting there. Jedi had extensive libraries...
They also noticed some high altitude express ways. They never went through the Green Zone, but skirted it. But if the wind was strong, it could blow something over the fence from a high altitude.
So our two stealthy Pid Droids (Hack and Slash, Mechanic and Thief) bought Grav Chutes, and three Thermal Detonators. They cannon balled out of the back of the ship on a windy evening from the Express Way. The Thief set up two detonators as distractions. One in an apartment block, and the other was snuck into a supply cart going into the Imperial Library. (These guys are very sneaky, they have optical camouflage and talent.)
The mechanic merely hauled all the heavy weapons to a place they can be recovered from.
Human Scoundrel, Human Marauder, and Twilek Gadgeteer, take the tour that morning but manage to slip away in the gift shop. There are a large number of troops marching around the Jedi Temple, but the players manage to move up to the doors in a gap, and get in....
Bombs start going off in the Green Zone. (This in itself is an accomplishment.)
Now the fun begins... Jedi killer droids.... 4 assassin droids (Age of Rebellion) with Cortosis armour are plugged in and waiting for ingress. It was well and truly worth it to see the looks on the players faces when they were rolling. Red Dice were awful... FSE Marauder... Force Sense wasn't working... And those blades barely dented them... Heavy Blaster fire from the gadgeteer wasn't really hurting them (Soak 7, Cortosis absorbed most damage).
Bleeding, from multiple smoking blaster wounds, the crew's fearless scoundrel leader, Drew Holst grabbed the last thermal detonator from the fallen Thief Droid, and tossed it... Successfully ending the existence of the last two of those droids.
The first thing the players said, was, "What are those things made of?" "We need to get samples."
Next week, they hopefully find the data they are looking for, and escape in some Jedi Star Fighters. (Think 4 could take an assassin class corvette?)
