So... My crew decides to break into the Jedi Temple...

By UHF, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

It was a long session. Planning isn't the strong point for my players but it went very well.

One of their Rebel contacts asked them to locate Cortosis. They immediately thought about using the ggg galactic internet, but information dries up quickly. They make some enquiries into the black market, and quickly realize that the empire has locked down all information on Cortosis mining, locations, etc. To get that kind of info (even recent surveys) they'd need to break into the Imperial Library and extract the data.

They go to Coresant, and are aghast at the security. I modelled the security after modern Bagdad, the Emperor stay hiding in the Green Zone, which is super duper tight. A 1km wall surrounding the green zone and the old Senate prevents ground incursion. Underground is solid, but Black Sun could help, for your soul. Anti air towers surround the area.

The players took the Star Tours tour of the Green Zone with an announcer laying it on thick about the silly Jedi and how humans are really better than all aliens. The players observed all the security, including full body scans. No Droids entering or leaving in Imperial facilities, no aliens, etc.

It's Fort Knox, and the humans are dumb as soup (no sneaking in and Slicing for ropy and dopy).

Then they see that the Jedi Temple is heavily guarded, but otherwise unoccupied. They also notice that on the upper levels, there are some Jedi Fighters just sitting there. Jedi had extensive libraries...

They also noticed some high altitude express ways. They never went through the Green Zone, but skirted it. But if the wind was strong, it could blow something over the fence from a high altitude.

So our two stealthy Pid Droids (Hack and Slash, Mechanic and Thief) bought Grav Chutes, and three Thermal Detonators. They cannon balled out of the back of the ship on a windy evening from the Express Way. The Thief set up two detonators as distractions. One in an apartment block, and the other was snuck into a supply cart going into the Imperial Library. (These guys are very sneaky, they have optical camouflage and talent.)

The mechanic merely hauled all the heavy weapons to a place they can be recovered from.

Human Scoundrel, Human Marauder, and Twilek Gadgeteer, take the tour that morning but manage to slip away in the gift shop. There are a large number of troops marching around the Jedi Temple, but the players manage to move up to the doors in a gap, and get in....

Bombs start going off in the Green Zone. (This in itself is an accomplishment.)

Now the fun begins... Jedi killer droids.... 4 assassin droids (Age of Rebellion) with Cortosis armour are plugged in and waiting for ingress. It was well and truly worth it to see the looks on the players faces when they were rolling. Red Dice were awful... FSE Marauder... Force Sense wasn't working... And those blades barely dented them... Heavy Blaster fire from the gadgeteer wasn't really hurting them (Soak 7, Cortosis absorbed most damage).

Bleeding, from multiple smoking blaster wounds, the crew's fearless scoundrel leader, Drew Holst grabbed the last thermal detonator from the fallen Thief Droid, and tossed it... Successfully ending the existence of the last two of those droids.

The first thing the players said, was, "What are those things made of?" "We need to get samples."

Next week, they hopefully find the data they are looking for, and escape in some Jedi Star Fighters. (Think 4 could take an assassin class corvette?)

Wow....Simply wow...

Now you just need to bring in the Zillo Beast.

I don't know who is more ballsy, the players or you. Very nicely done. Sounds like a great time.

That sounds like your table had a blast. I love reading about other peoples adventures almost as much as participating in my own.

Not sure how my party would have handled that situation, but it probably would have ended with botched stealth rolls and blaster fire...

I hope you will post part 2 UHF. Please please please! If you don't, I'll unleash all of Anakin's whining and winging on you!!!

Would the Jedi Temple have been occupied by Inquisitorius?

No... worse...

Actually, I tossed Dark Side on their Stealth Rolls. Mostly I focused on the characters who weren't that good at it. (Hit'm in the dump stat, right?) They made it through fair and square.

I had a lot of Dark Side left over at the end. I was truly shocked at how awful Nemesis 2 with Cortosis really was for them to deal with, so I didn't pour any more pressure on.

Captain Holst was discharging his blaster pistols and tossing them aside like confetti.. (Despair: Empty Ammo Clip)

The Gadgeteer slammed three spare clips into her Rifle. (Talent: Spare Clip... get it if you want to survive a higher form of warfare)

All the Marauder could do was stand there with a dumb look on his face and take it like a man. Swings from his Vibro Swords which would normally fell a man, made pretty pretty sparks and glanced off these droids.

All of them took punishing punishing blaster wounds. The Jedi Assassin Droid blasters still had pierce you know.

Maybe but not likely. The models of starfighters preferred by the Jedi Order in the Clone Wars Era and period leading to it really weren't armed for fighting capital ships. They could probably do it with time but that time would most likely lead to Imp reinforcements swarming them.

Yeah... I just looked at the specs this morning. The first wave of missiles would hurt it badly, followed by a bunch of Jedi Star Fighters taking it up the thermal exhaust ports.

I need something Star-Wars-y to make this a good space fight...

The Eta-2 Actis has a pair of ion cannons. Combined with the rules for targeting individual starship components, a few early shots could easily cripple whatever corvette or frigate you put in their way. Or you could have a new Nemesis show up in his personal ship and go all "I will take them myself, cover me." Somebody's got to have noticed the intrusion, and they might suspect actual Jedi trying to reclaim their heritage.

Keep in mind though, that a lot of the older starfighters don't have internal hyperdrives. Either you need to find hyperdrive rings, or they turn out to be modded on, or the group could do a runner to one of Coruscant's moons, there's all the old bases there from the Clone Wars. Vintage ARC-170's would have hyperdrives, and are multi-seaters, so anyone incapacitated can be brought along.

Thanks... Jedi Star Fighters have build in Droids, and I was planning to have the players fly to orbit and grab their hyper drive rings.

I think it would be interesting if there was tracking gear on one of the rings.

I already have a progression in mind for the players to get a bigger ship, however they can only carry 3 fighters in a size 5 ship. Any spares will be donated to the Rebels... later becoming the super secret A-Wings developed for the battle of Endor.

(Dr Cratula has already attached a replacement hand on Luke Skywalker.)

If the rings are still there 20 years later, then yeah they're probably tampered with. Heck, the intergral R3 and R4 units could even be programmed to interfere with the ship's systems upon receipt of a transmitted code.

I like how you're tying the movie storyline into your games, I try to do the same.

Perhaps a stock CR-90 would be a reasonable fight versus 4 Jedi Fighters.

The fighters have a size 2 difference, and with auto fire, the CR-99 attack dice are PPPP. In addition fighters can Gain The Advantage, with ease, and use Evasive Maneuvers against the CR-90. If they stay within a single arc, only a limited number of weapons could attack. The speed and size advantage would really work in the fighter's favour.

Two waves of missiles and strafing runs, would do the job. I figure that one or two fighters would be rendered inoperative until temporary repairs can be made. Hopefully my players aren't dumb enough to bring their hyper drive rings into the fight.

Jedi Fighter, Gain The Advantage, P.

Jedi Fighter, Autofire, PPB.

CR-90 attack, RPPPB.

The best options for the CR-90 is to move its speed beyond normal, and narrow the speed advantage. Aggressive damage control will also work in its favor. I'd use YYG for all CR-90 skill checks. The Jedi Fighters have build in support in the form of an integrated Droid.

No... worse...

how worse?

I was planning to use Cortosis armored Dark Troopers. They have a pounding plasma cannon, and a missile launcher.

In the end I didn't do 'worse'. I decided that the players would enjoy a good space battle, and frankly their bodies couldn't take much more. They were covered in patches.
