Primitive Armor

By Gnbiscuits, in Only War Rules Questions

Okay guys I'll make this quick. In the pre beta rules rule books under primitive armor it said something along the lines of "primitive armor ap values are halved against everything except primitive weapons." Why can I no longer find that sentence in Only War or BC? Is it purposely left out? Or is the sentence I'm looking for somewhere else? Thank you to anyone who replies :)

Sounds like a cut-and-paste issue, because that's how primitive armor worked in older games. As with accurate and scatter and etc.

By "pre beta" you mean? early beta DH2? DH1? Beta OW?

leaked noted pre-dating the OW-beta?

Armour can no longer be primitive :)

So by pre beta I men't anything that isn't only war and BC. So all the older ones that used the older rules. Not the new DH2 rules. And can you clarify by armour can no longer be primitive? Because there IS primitive armour such as Feudal world plate and Deathworld Hide Vest. Are you saying that they no longer have the primitive rules or . . . . . ?

As of BC (thus including all later games), armors can no longer have the primitive rules.

The primitive rule also works differently for weapons, btw.

Alright that you for clarifying. It still seems weird to me that Feudal Plate can provide better ap than flak armour. Like plate armour would turn to Swiss cheese against an autogun. I might just make it a house rule that we use the old ruling for it

I agree with the problem of the high AP for the feudal plate with the primitive-quality gone, but you have to look at the weight of it, 30 kgs... if you want to carry any weapons and equipment, you have to have SB+TB=7 or 8.

Conversely, assuming flak armour is anything like modern bulletproof vests, a sword should go right through it.

You're free to do that, of course, but plate armour was technically designed against the firearms of the time. It got discarded mostly because the plates needed for use against the evolving firearms were too heavy to be useful (see: 30kg weight), but some armour was still in use in the trenches of WW1.

That being said: Compare the modern armour to the old. For just 1AP less (and the same AP for explosives), Flak Armour weighs a third of plate while Storm Trooper Carapace weighs half while having 1AP more. I think that's enough progress for the Imperium of Man.
