xbba squad

By face747, in X-Wing

Looking for comments on a squad I am putting together:

Wedge (29) + Swarm Tactics (2) + Stealth (3) = (34)

Blue Squadron X2 = (44)

Green Squadron (19) + PTL (3) = (22)

(100) points

I am trying to decide if Stealth Device is worthwhile on Wedge since he is only base 2 defense dice so I am not sure how long it would last.

My other thought was to get rid of Stealth and upgrade one of the B-Wings to a Dagger, leaving me at 99 points. I could then add an R2 to Wedge or leave it at 99 points for initiative.

I did look at the couple 3 point astromechs instead of stealth device, but not sure their effects are worthwhile.

Thought with the squad is to fly Wedge close to the B's for swarm tactics and let the A fly around to flank and possibly block later in the game if needed.

Thoughts?

Some thoughts keeping it x,b,b,a

I think Luke with swarm tactics achieves almost the same thing Wedge does for you and he should live quite a lot longer. I think Wedge is going to meet a pretty horribly awful death by the end of round 2, he's such an obvious target, and if you don't have your focus token that extra evade dice is pretty disappointing.

I think an A-wing without a missile is a waste of points, I personally would rather have a prototype with a homing missile. As it is I could care less what the green A-wing is doing, I am not scared of his attack dice even at range one when I can annihilate your other planes so much easier.

Or you could just take a naked prototype, try and get it out in front to block, and spend the extra points beefing up the b-wings with adv. sensors or something.

I don't think that Wedge + Stealth is very useful.

However, Luke + Stealth certainly is.

Haters gonna hate on the A wing. I've been running with a sole prototype to block. And a recurring theme in close games is A wing vs. something else in the end game. And the little prototype just can't seem to do enough by himself. Moving first hurts him there since he doesn't know what to do with his action.

Meanwhile, I was playing a fun squad the other day that ended up coming down to 2 bombers (one at 2 hull remaining) and a TIE vs. a Green w/ PTL. Given the TIE took 2-3 turns to get back into the game, and the dice were (for once) on my side, but the green ended up pulling the upset. It quickly took out the injured bomber, while evading the firing arc of the second bomber, and then got on it's tail, and when he pulled a 5k, I knew that I needed to F+E that turn since he had a shot on me. Meanwhile, the TIE came back into the fray on my butt, but the Green outmaneuvered him, and lined up for a R1 shot w/ TL+F to one shot the TIE, and then the remaining bomber had no chance.

That made me decide I needed to find 5 points somewhere in my list to upgrade from a prototype to a green w/ PTL. No one is afraid of a silly green, but he can still block against PS4+ folks just fine, and he's a great end game closer.

I have found similar results with the a-wing. Had a game the other night that can down to my green with ptl and chewbacca with 4 hull remaining. In the end chewbacca won out but I was able to get three additional hits before he did. My green had full hull and one shield at the start and I wasn't able to fire on him every turn that he could on me.

As for my list, I think I am going to try the following and see how it goes:

Luke (28) + swarm tactics (2) + r2d2 (4) = (34)

Blue X2 = (44)

Green (19) + ptl (3) = (22)

100 points total

I think Luke will fare better than Wedge (as others have stated).

A thought at 99 points:

Biggs (or Garven for 100 point build)

Dagger + FCS (x2)

Green + PtL

Still have the A-Wing flanker but you boost the power of the B-Wings while throwing in an X-Wing that can help support the Bs.

How is green going to get PTL, it's an elite pilot skill.

Nevermind I just went and looked. wow that is bizarre - how do Y-Wing and Lambda named pilots not have it, yet generic A-Wings do?!

How do Backstabber, Nightbeast, Winged Gundark, and Dark Curse not get it, yet the generic Black Squadron Pilot does?

But even better question - why does Arvel not get one, when he was Green Leader?

Why wouldn't they? A-wings are generally piloted by more skilled pilots, as they are a much tougher ship to fly. I find it stranger that the prototype pilot is just skill 1 and the elite generic is only skill 3.

Green Squadron pilots can take an Elite Pilot skill….

They're excellent! They can outmaneuver most ships, they're hard to kill (especially with PTL) and F+TL with 2-3 die is very nearly as good as 3-4 die with focus.

I like the idea of getting the two B's to Daggers with FCS, but Luke is a great option for an x-wing - who will both last long, and still give out good firepower.

Maybe

Luke + Swarm tactics

2 Blue Squadrons + 2 FCS

Green + PTL

That can work. I used a less expensive X-Wing for points to boost the B-Wing's PS but Swarm Tactics can boost firing time more although it doesn't alter moving time. This could fire at 8,8,3,2 while my suggestion fired at 6,4,4,3 so each has its advantages.
