New Dark Heresy Designer Diary: Adepticon Report

By FFG Ross Watson, in Dark Heresy

Hi Dark Heresy fans!

I just uploaded a new designer diary about Adepticon! The show was a lot of fun and I spilled some secrets to the crew at 40K Radio and Dice Like Thunder.

Listening to the Dice Like Thunder podcast now. Alot of very interesting information so far.

The DLT Podcast was a lot of fun, and, it's true: I gave out a LOT of information.gran_risa.gif

That there was, especially about the Radical's Handbook. Penal Troopers, Tainted Scholars and the Exorcised? I can't wait.

Any chance of a quick summery of the highlights for those of us without the time to listen?

Yes but was any important information given, like a RELEASE DATE!

I'll give it another listen later and write down specific points to post here. As for release dates....afraid not, besides in the most general of terms.

I've given it another listen (the third one now) and extracted some interesting points for those without the time or inclination to listen. I'd recommend you do, since I've excluded a fair bit of talk which doesn't deal with upcoming releases and it's generally entertaining. At the very least skip to bang-on 30 minutes in for an amusing tale of Creatures Anathema playtesting. With that said, informations.

Rouge Trader
-Less structured than DH, "broader, more shallow."
-Starting RT character are the equivalent of a DH character with 5,500xp.
-Each career has a unique ability right off the bat.
-New vehicle rules are going to be changed considerably, which is why the Apocrypha hasn't been addressed during FFG's custodianship of the game.

Haarlock Legacy
-Haarlock's Legacy and the return of the infamous Rogue Trader deals with the Tyrant Star. (Last bit might be news to people.)
-Quadis described as "Caligula: The Planet."

Radical's Handbook
-Examines the Radical mindset and the various radical factions. Some of the latter will be new/unique to the Calixis Sector.
-Chapter on running a Radical Campaign.
-"I like to see the Radical's Handbook as a resource for both the player and the GM."
-"Lots of new career options." Penal Legionnaire (Ross insisted), Hive Mutant, Tainted Scholar.
-"You can actually start the game as a character who has been possessed in the past and is now exorcised, it's a background package called Exorcised." Been through a daemon's essence, more insight into their nature than a normal man, but of course are considered corrupt and much in need of purging. "Alot of cool abilities."
-"The RH has some cool stuff for an arbitrator who doesn't necessarily want to keep his nose clean all the time." (Ross loves the Arbites, expect lots of stuff for them.)
-Ross clarifies after a question about corruption and redemption; Corruption mechanic represents exposure to the warp and the corrupting influence of Chaos and not necessarily a moral corruption.

Ascension
-"Tier 2 for Dark Heresy." "You are the interrogator, you are the inquisitor." "It will change the game experience when you move up the chain a bit."
-"There's plenty of steps above that (the rank of Inquisitor) to climb." "Even Eisenhorne had to answer to his master." "Ascension will take you a step up, but it won't necessarily put you at the top of the heap."
-Question asked on linearity of DH career progression to new careers in Ascension ("does my Guardsman only have one option"). Ross can't get into too many details, "there will definitely be the kind of things you'd expect to see in an Inquisitor's retinue, and I think that's probably as specific as I can get right now."

Thanks Snidesworth!

Ross, I'd like my copy of the Radicals Handbook now please. gran_risa.gif
