"No longer... shall you call me Nightmare!"

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS Deck Building

After looking at almost all of the different Soul Calibur/ShadoWar characters, I decided I'd build one of the slightly less looked at characters, and I decided I'd try and build it off a resource I very rarely use. All comments appreciated :)

Earth Siegfried*

Attacks x 14

Assets/Actions x 10

Foundations x 36

Foundations:
4 x Huge Wrestling Army
4 x The King Of Fighters 2006
4 x Blinding Rage
4 x The Glare From The Abyss
3 x Dancing Battle Kabuki
3 x Torn Hero
3 x Inhuman Perception
3 x Battle Prowess
3 x Dormant For Millions Of Years
2 x Will For The Fight
2 x Memories Of A Nightmare
1 x Cutting Edge

Assets/Actions:
3 x Olcadan’s Mentoring
2 x Soul Calibur*
2 x Fantasy Shop
3 x No Forgiveness!

Attacks:
4 x Reborn Basher
4 x Double Grounder Beta
3 x Rising Hilt
3 x Crushing Embrace of the Jotun

This is a deck that is meant to go against the grain a little bit and tries to target board control as it's main prey. I have tried to discourage my opponent from using any form of committal effects (of which there are many) by playing Soul Calibur*, Dormant For Millions Of Years and Torn Hero. Blinding Rage is there for obvious reasons, and Will For The Fight, Reborn Basher and Memories Of A Nightmare are there to stop Bitter Rivals and the latter two also prevent Chesters' Backing from ruining my day.

Part of the reason I have always been so hesitant to run Earth decks is their lack of draw power and momentum generation. I have tried to compensate for this by running Huge Wrestling Army and Fantasy Shop (although in a smaller number due to the newer Terrain ruling) Dancing Battle Kabuki can fulfill both conditions, however, if I have to choose between using that and using Siegfried's First F, I would rather use his. KOF 2006 is part discard, part momentum gen for my kill condition, and with Glare From The Abyss, can make their blocking problems a lot harder to overcome.

As you can probably tell, the main kill condition in this deck is Double Grounder Beta using both of Siegfried's effects to make it extremely damaging, and more likely fatal. Reborn Basher is the ideal attack to use before this as it shuts down a lot of the cards that would stop me, and anything it couldn't handle, Memories Of A Nightmare can. (i.e. No Memories). No Forgiveness is mainly in the deck in order to force a block out of their hands on either the first attack in the line, or the first multiple of the Double Grounder, and it they don't/can't block it, all the better for me. Crushing Embrace is an attack both as a throw and as a desperation attack after using Fantasy Shop and Siegfried to lose vitality. Rising Hilt, while not the greatest attack in the world, seems to be the cheapest Mid Weapon attack I can use in order to Combo into Double Grounder other than Reborn Basher. I would like to replace this, but am unsure what to change it for. I thought about Ichi No Tachi, but found that I would be unable to use Battle Kabuki's flip side if it were needed if I did due to resource chaining issues.

Cards in consideration: The Ways Of Punishment, Tag Along, Lynette's Shop, Revenant's Calling, Needs No Ally, Distractible, Berserker Rage

no Siegfrieds earth divide? After a multiplied Beta = win

I really like the build... original and it looks like it can tear people apart LOL!

Siegfried's Earth Divide and Double Grounder Beta? Thats a harsh difficulty/check curve I'd rather do without, if I'm honest, as Double Grounder should be able to kill by itself, and if it doesn't, I'd rather not have to follow it up with a really difficult attack that a cheaper one could do just as well... Thank you for the idea, but it just seems a little too hard to pull off.

Siegfried doesn't need his Earth Divide. He can turn Double Grounder into a card that is more powerful than Feline Spike. No need to waste space on Earth Divide.

Increase Torn Hero to 4. It's good for the spam and the more you have out, the more hell it can cause your opponent. Maybe DBK can go down to 2 if you need room-not sure there.

Distractable is definitely side board material. 3 or 4 should do the trick.

4x Tag Along in every deck that can run it.
IMO, 3x or 4x Revenant's Calling. They help you win foundation wars.

I think you should run The Ways of Punishment. That and The Glare From the Abyss is Earth's only real kill setup. Don't be afraid of Big Cyclone. At the worst, you'll be forced to use Cutting Edge.

All of the other stuff you listed can fit under sideboard material, except for Berserker Rage. Right now, there are so many cards that tower over it, and you wouldn't need it to win anyways.

After some testing, I've disovered a few things:

a) That Soul Calibur is sex on a stick

b) That I'm still having trouble with draw power/momentum gain, possibly just bad luck on my part, but I think I will load Tag Along into the deck in place of Will For The Fight and move that into Side-deck.

c) That it is more difficult than I thought to combo into Double Grounder without something going awry with it, although again, that may be due to point b.

First off, this deck is very enjoyable to play with, the games I've played with Siegfried have been unbelievably fun. It's very refreshing to make Order/Evil players think twice before they do anything they would normally do. Nothing makes an Evil player panic quite like No Forgiveness! on a throw! And when the Double Grounders do go off, they really, really sting.

@ Shaneth: I keep looking at Revenant's Calling, but because I'm dropping cards from my hand for Dormant For Millions of Years and The King Of Fighters 2006, I'm hesitant to run it. The same goes for the Ways of Punishment. The multiples of Double Grounder, The Glare From The Abyss, and The King Of Fighters together seem to do quite a good job of dropping their hand on their own. Although I can see what you mean with it. I'll definately be taking your advice on the Tag Along front though, although I'll need to pilfer some Tag Alongs from one of my playgroup, all of mine have disappeared!

Revenant's Calling's second ability should be enough to sell you on it. Not only does it stop Defender/Mega Spike loops, but with all the absurdly huge throws that are gonna get tossed around now, it could be a life saver.

Maybe, I might have a go at having one or two of them in there, although I wouldn't be sure what to take out, and if I do that, I should probably take Crushing Embrace out in favour of another Mid Weapon (and because I can't guarantee the hit so easily, possibly remove No Forgiveness!) so that it becomes easier to combo into Double Grounder more easily.

Also, just had a couple of games with him, I tell you what, if you want anti-Bitter Rivals, honestly, Memories of a Nightmare is awesome.
