Fine tuning a double Firespray list

By Eltnot, in X-Wing

I'm looking at running a double Firespray list at the upcoming store championships. So far I have two versions that seem plausible.

Version 1

FS Bounty Hunter - Intelligence Agent 34

FS Kath Scarlet - Expert Handling, Rebel Captive 41

T/I Saber Squadron - Veteran Instincts, Stealth Device 25

Total 100 points (Intelligence agent was dropped in to fill up the points and gauge high PS pilot movements for the use of TL's and the squint's boost and barrel rolls)

Version 2

FS Bounty Hunter - Gunner 38

FS Bounty Hunter - Gunner 38

T/I Saber Squadron - Veteran Instincts 22

Total 98 points (tossing up between adding an APL or Seismic Charge to fill out the points)

Thoughts, ramblings, criticisms?

i like version one more, although if u had Push the Limit id prefer that on ur intercepter over stealth device.

I'd take PtL also, but I also want that PS 6 so that I can boost/barrel roll after seeing where most of the enemy's force has moved to. If I could take Imperial Aces, I would take a Royal Guard Pilot with PtL

If you're just "tossing in the IA" to max out you're points I imagine you'll want to use the Royal Guard Interceptor when it comes out. It's just like the Saber except 1 point more for PS 6 instead of PS 4 allowing it to reach PS 8 when VI is included.

The only dual firespray list I've ran multiple times is Vader's Bounties:

BH + recon X2

Doomshuttle

My experience with Shuttles is too limited so I'd rather leave it out since I wouldn't be able to wrangle the most out of it.

I've been playing variations of double Firesprays for a while and found it most rewarding and powerful. With the recent tend of putting more ships with less upgrades down I started to play

2x BH

1x Alpha Interceptor

1x Backstabber Tie

Go in hard with the two BH tanks while you speed your fighters into the flank or back of the enemy. Works a treat.

No Heavy Laser Cannons? I love those things on B-Wings! I was just askin' 'cos at some point I want to start Imps for the sole reason of running a dual-firespray list! They're such fun to play against, it'd be fun to paint up the models.

I like the first list a little better, as I think EH on a firespray is a blast. I might try switching it around to:

45 - Kath w/expert handling, rebel captive, and seismic charge

38 - Bounty Hunter w/ recon and seismic

16 or Dark Curse or Backstabber.

I think either tie works. Backstabber is a budget interceptor, or space debris if your opponent concentrates on him. Dark Curse is the one no one bothers to shoot until the end, but he does a bit of damage over time. Recon is just, to me, the best crew for a firespray. They have enough green dice to really make use of the double focus. You could also switch out two seismics for a proton bomb; they can be very devastating. I'd recommend some bombs though, they're usually at least one free point of damage.

Whatever you choose, good luck and have fun!

I've been doing the exact same, trying to fine tune a dual firespray list for an upcoming tournament and so far its a toss up between:

Krassis + HLC

Kath + Marksmanship

Backstabber

or

BH + HLC

BH + HLC

Backstabber + stealth

Every time i decide on one i end up changing my mind. Wasnt sure whether to drop the HLC's altogether and just take a bunch of crew and upgrades.

Everytime I try to add a third ship to my double firespray list, I end up regretting it. So long as I dont fly Boba Fett off the table (Ive done it 4 times now because I am too agressive) this list works really well.

Kath Scarlet
Marksmanship
Mercenary Copilot
Homing Missiles
Proton Torpedoes
Slave I
Boba Fett
Expert Handling
Navigator
Engine Upgrade
I try to keep Kath at RB3, between Marksmanship and the Merc Copilot, I usually have 2 crits up on a target. She spreads a lot of stress. More often than not Kath lands 4 crits with a proton torpedo on something. And Im cool either way if they dodge it all, or take all the crits. (I did this once on Sootnir Fel and effectively took him out of the game, he needed to spend 4 rounds shedding stress before he could do actions or PTL). An actionless Interceptor is a sad sight.

You sure thats right?

When reading her ability i understood it to mean that you could only ever give out 1 stress, so if you got 4 crits and he saved them all, he'd only get 1 stress.

Correct as per the inclusion of the "at least 1" in her ability.

'at least 1' refers to the crits, not the stress. It only mentions that the other guy gets one stress. The wording suggests to me that you can only receive one unless you use something like gunner.

Jock is correct. Kath awards one stress token per attack if you cancel one or more crits. It doesn't matter how many you cancel in one attack, you only get one stress token.

I quite like this build.

Avenger Squadron Pilot
Stealth Device

I would really like to try two firesprays with no extra support ships I think it could be fun and interesting.

I only have one unfortunately, but if I had two I'd be tempted to run:

Krass + HLC + Recon + Seismic + Shield = 52

BH + HLC + Recon + Seismic + Hull = 48

Makes them both offensive happy with the HLC and seismic, as well as defensive happy with the extra hit point and dual focus each round.

aiming to play some larger pointed games so I can run three firesprays with some upgrades on them :D

I've run.

Firespray, rebel captive, seismic charge

Firespray, recon specialist, seismic charge

Shuttle, darth vader.

Had mixed results with it, but I love three large ships, Finally got my third firespray but yet to run 3 bounties...

I like the idea for two Firesprays for funsies, I'd probably try this: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/49232/dual-firespray

Doomshuttle

The beauty of the Vader shuttle is just about everyone can get thier points worth running it. Poit it at the bad guys for 3 rounds and you're golden. It's really the "training package" of the shuttle. If they refuse to fire on your shuttle you might have to turnitaround but there is nothing like a late game shuttle hit + crit if you successfully get the beast turned. After 2-3 rounds of 3-4 dice + a crit your shuttle at best has 4HP left and 1 Agility. That's too easy of points for most to leave.

I ran the first list and found the following experiences from my game last night. First I was over by two points because the battle scribe file was only charging 1 point for rebel captive  Secondly I never once used EH even if I wanted too. The shuttle is too big and against a four ship rebel list I could never do it without hitting an asteroid or another ship. So out of three games, I have barrel rolled a grand total of once and even then I didn't really need to do it.

So going to go to list two which is nice and simple. No little tricks, just good damage output. I think I will make one change though and drop Veteran Instincts on the Interceptor for Push the Limit as I think this will get me a little more mileage.

If you really want to go hammer with a scalpel, try this.

Bounty Hunter (33)

Bounty Hunter, Intelligence Agent (34)

Soontir Fel, PtL, Stealth Device (33)

Bounty Hunters go straight into the fray, Fel uses speed and agility to get in behind the enemy.

Shoot up the enemy.

Krass + HLC + Recon + Seismic + Shield = 52

BH + HLC + Recon + Seismic + Hull = 48

If I were to run this, I'd be tempted to put an Engine Upgrade on Krassis instead of a Shield. 1 extra HP isn't going to help that much, but being able to Boost with a Firespray is HUUUUUUGE.

So have settled upon the following list:

FS Bounty Hunter - Gunner 38
FS Bounty Hunter - Gunner 38
T/I Saber Squadron - Push the Limit 24
Played it three times last night for two wins and one loss. The Gunners greatly improve the firepower of the list and make the damage quite reliable. It does struggle a little to movement blocking though when things get tight. I lost the game the other night when one of his ships mad me run into him with one Firespray, and run into myself with the other firespray. Still I have improved my movement and didn't hit a single asteroid with the firesprays in any of the games.
:)

I've tried a dual firespray list for the first time on vassal the past couple nights and went 0-3 with it. Very frustrating as I like the firespray a lot and think my list is very solid. My flying has gotten better each game, but I keep getting crappy attacks early in the game which is hurting me. My opponents for two of the games had much better luck with the attack dice than me.

EDIT:

And it's not the one I had listed on a previous page, somewhat similar but definitely different.
