Some beginner questions

By kingoffrogs, in A Game of Thrones: The Board Game

Hey there, I just bought this game and dove right in with a 6 player game. I tried my best to follow the rule book and respond to questions as best I could but I still found myself a little confused on a few circumstances. Please help!

1. If a controlled area of mine is being attacked, and an adjacent area has both a Support and Defense token on it (one of these tokens is a special order token), do both tokens contribute to my embattled area's combat strength? Or would it just be the support tokens combat strength helping me out?

2. If a player has a power token in an area with a castle or stronghold, can you muster there?

3. If a player has a power token in an area with a supply barrel, does that contribute to your place on the supply track?

4. I just want to clarify: During mustering, you cannot make a Knight into two footmen, etc. Correct?

I think that's all I have for now, I really appreciate any advice or input!

Thanks!

1. If your area is being attacked, only the Defense Order on it can add combat strength to your army. The Support Order in the adjacent area will contribute, if the owner of the order wills to do so (it may be you or any other player).

2. A player can only do the mustering in this situation, when a Westeros card "Mustering" is revealed. In order to muster armies without the card, you must have at least one unit in the area with a castle or stronghold and put a Special Consolidate Power Order.

3. Yes it does, but only when positions on the supply track are reconsidered due to Westeros cards being revealed.

4. Yes, you are right. You can only upgrade units. The only way, when the units can be removed from the board is dying in combat or being supply block during retreat (so not the whole army can retreat and some units have to die).

Have fun with the game and don't hesitate to ask questions, there will be a lot more of them. ;)

The way this is worded sounds like you have TWO Orders in the same area -- this is impossible, as you may never have more than ONE order in an area, no matter how many units are there.

RULEBOOK, PAGE 12:

1. Assign Orders

During this step, each player must place exactly one Order token

facedown on each area he controls that contains at least one of his units.
