The rebel 'B-Team'

By Hydraface, in X-Wing

I made a change to this post 'cos it was a wall 'o text. This is a little more user-freindly, and I'd love some feedback! 2nd edit: I've updated the format, hopefully, peoples eyes don't bleed when they try to read the lists now!

Luke. Wedge. Han. They must be the first-picks, the go-to guys, the intergalactic 'A-Team'. But if you can't find them, or if they're too busy or you can't afford them, then you can probably hire...The B-Team!

I've played a few games of X-Wing and found that keeping ships alive, as a rebel, is a pretty integral part of the strategy for that side. It's an advantage they have, broadly more durable ships than the Empire, and I wanted to make a list that really makes use of that. With that in mind, here's 'The B-Team', a list of also rans who make use of defensiveness and resilience to enemy fire to survive, whittle down the enemy, and hopefully come out on top and be standing at the end of it.

Chewbacca (42)

Expert Handling (2)

Nien Nunb-nuts (1)

'Falcon Title (1)

Biggs Punchpag (25)

R2-F2: (3)

Garven Dreis (26)

= 100 points total.

This is about as defensive as it gets methinks! The plan is to have everything survive as long as possible and keep dealin' damage. Chewy's got EH because it greatly enhances his manouverability and survivability (shaking TL's and getting out of firing arcs while keeping the enemy in his 360 range), and hopefully R2-F2 and GArven's ability keeps Biggs alive for long time. That's if I'm understanding the way you can use Dreis's discarded focus (I accept I may not...lemme know if I got it wrong).

ALTERNATIVELY:

Chewey (42)

Nien Nunb (1)

Expert Handling (2)

Garven Dreis (26),

Jan Ors (25)

Blaster turret (4)

= 100 point total

for some powerful offence or even

Chewy (42)

Expert handling (2)

Biggs (25)

R2-F2 (3)

Dutch Vander (23)

on turret (25)

so it's TL attacks a-go-go even when folks are stressed, and anything getting too close gets ioned and becomes Chewey's next (easy) target.

Think I made a Boo-boo when I first posted this, it was waaaay too text-ey. Hopefully folk'sll offer an opinion now! If not, I promise I'll watch this post die with my own eyes...

Biggs Punchpag with R2-F2: 28 points

I laughed so hard at that comment. Still got a big smile on my face. Well done.

Nah, man. It's your formatting, not your content, that's the problem.

What we've got here is your classic WALL OF TEXT, which few readers dare to scale.

What you want to do is to break it up into smaller chunks by varied spacing (Doublespacing between paragraphs is one thing, but try Triplespacing between unrelated paragraphs, or separating with a visual spacer)

When I talk about fleets, it tends to look like this:

====================================================

Chewbacca

+ Expert Handling

[44]

Biggs Darklighter

+ R2-F2

[28]

"Dutch" Vander

+ Ion Cannon Turret

[28]

====================================================

All of that is in the regular 14 point font, except the pilots names, which are an emboldened 18.

Spacing it out this way makes it very easily scanned, which in turn makes it easier for folks to leave comments.

If you can shuffle your points around, r2-d2 works much better on biggs, I've found. Green maneuvers recharge your shields, a given, versus the chance of avoiding a shot with r2-f2. Plus, that action could be spent on a focus token, increasing your chances of evading.

Potentially take the falcon title off of chewie in your first list. That'll make room for r2-d2, and if you're using EH a lot, you won't be able to take an evade token a lot.

Having Garvin there helps out a lot with Chewie. Garvin can use his focus token, pass it to chewie, after he barrel rolled or tl'd or what not, and have another powerful action, effectively for free

I'd love to see some more options. I read the first part of the original post then hit refresh and missed the more in-depth analysis.

Thanks for the advice all! Some great, logical thinking. The 'Falcon title isn't going to get used much if I use EH often, so it CAN be dropped. And R2-F2 seemed like such a great fit for Biggs, but R2-D2, plus the freedom to use an action sounds like a much better idea, I will use that.

I did use the original list last night. I screwed it up a bit! Left Biggs to get his butt shot offearly on and it scuppered my tactics. Also, keep three ships, one large base, in active formation is tricky; you start sacrificing positioning and manouvering to synergise the abilities. It's great when the effects work together, but it's like you've shrunk the play area for yourself.

It was a great, fun list though! Garven and Chewy works shockingly well. I would imagine Biggs W//R2 would too, but the three B-listers together is maybe a bit too much to use effectively. Or maybe I'm just a sucky pilot, I dunno. To the tweak-mobile, I'll explain on the way...
