Hallo!

So I had an hour spare yesterday and decided to start a custom paintjob of my favourite Firespray-31 Pilot, Kath Scarlet. I didn't copy the card exactly (the main bit of the hull I re-did to my personal taste) but I think it's turned out quite nicely. Comments and criticism are most welcome, please note that it isn't finished as of yet :3

Looks good. It amazes me that this only took an hour. My repaints always seem to be much smaller scale and take quite a bit more time. It's a shame that you got a fingerprint right in the front though =/ Maybe Rodent could give you advise on how to blur it and make it less noticeable?

Yes, Tidying it up is the next stage (some naughty runs from my shakey caffeine-enraged hands), then on the the engine glow!

It may be counter intuitive, but I like to have a beer as I work on my minis. I find that one beer helps steady my hand.

I've always liked the Kath Scarlet repaints, but my main problem is the bright WHITE with red. After a few minutes on photoshop, I messed around with a grey with red idea, and loved it.

Now, seeing someone else paint it the way I had planned... It's beautiful.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Citadel's washes - they improve a model tenfold!

haha.. I will be posting pictures when I get it done, I have so much going on.. School Bus Shuttle, and it's TIE figher defense group.. YT remodel .. maybe I can get it done soon.. I just need to paint it really, already have a base coat on it to make it uniform. If I stop working on the Bus now I may never get back to it, my mind flys off to new projects too easy..

where do you get the paint you use for painting these things and what kind of paint is it?

I use model paint; my collection is somewhat piecemeal, but I mostly use Citadel (Games Workshop) paints and washes. They are a little more than Tamiya,Revell etc. but are worth every penny!

I'm quite happy with Citadel paints as well. It's a quality product as long as you know the lids are closed.

That said, I'm amazed you painted this so quickly. I take so much time when I paint by comparison. My HWK is turning into quite a long project.

I was rather lazy; I didn't strip the model, I just gave it two thin coats of a very light grey (I want to say Astronomican Grey?) before adding in the red, washing it, and starting some highlights. Around 50 minutes all-told

I've still gotta improve those highlights, touch up my shakey hand-work and consider some weathering. Oh, and paint the back! XD D4rkt3mpl4r has an excellent Firespray repaint with some of the best engine glow I think I have ever seen!

I did a similar Grey/Red scheme myself this morning and last night for my wife's Firespray as she always tends to play Kath Scarlet.

I agree it looks better in grey, the card art looks grey anyway.

I used Foundry slate grey and british redcoat red on the whole.

Highlighted it up a bit with arctic grey then washed the whole thing with 50/50 black and water mix. I find it clings less than ink and is less shiny when you want that FFG 'grime' look.

Oh I put a few paint chips and blaster carbon scores on too. She claims she never gets hit but that would be a lie!

I also went for blue engines rather than Slave 1's orange ones as that card art has a blue back glow
